#10 St Francis de Agressi - up to 2021 round 2

yeah, id be inclined to not even consider him for senior section at least until after the bye

Alistair Clarkson says ā€œNoā€. Gill agrees.

There is something funny about that.
In scenario 1, Clarkson complained to Gill about blocking over coffee, so Gil had it added to the memo sent to clubs the next day. In scenario 2, the blocking issue had already been addressed in the memo, so, if Gil knew what was in the memo, he surely would have declined to see Clarkson . Maybe Gil did not know what was in the memo, which I find hard to believe,. That leads me to think that scenario 1 is the correct one.

How many sugars, one lump or two?

Why would Hawthorn want to stop blocking they do it as well as anyone can.

The rule only applies to the other 17 clubs.

The alternate version of the story out this morning was that it was sounding out whether Clarkson and the AFL-owned GWS would be a good match.

Governance, and all that.

30, 40, 50 year old adults go through bouts of anxiety, stress & depression when there are changes in their work place, they get criticised about their performance (in private) by their boss through KPIā€™s and performance reviews.

Yet we expect a 19/20 year old to ā€˜man upā€™ to the fact their performance is poor by their coaches and within the club, they move away from their social support & family, they need to learn to live by themselves; plus they have added criticism of newspaper articles, talk back radio, keyboard warriors, trolls, nuffies stopping them in the streetā€¦ the list goes on.

Supporters go overboard with expectation early in a young players career. The expectation we placed on Aaron has been unfair. Now that there is no expectation, heā€™s now expressing himself and playing football with joy.

Itā€™s an eye opener for supporters imo. Itā€™s time we let these kids enjoy their football without the added pressure and public scrutiny, their development will improve out of sight.

Cos Clarko reckoned it was " NO free kick Hawthorn"

Coons took too much notice of social media criticism.
However, players get a sense of crowd disapproval from both fans and opposition fans and they have to learn to deal with it. The solution is support for them from within the team.

You will often see players being given support by team-mates after poor passages of play whether its just a five, pat on the back or full on shoulder.

But with all the external criticism, shouldnā€™t it be the job of supporters to actually support the playersā€¦ especially young players.

What possible good can come from booing, Bronx-cheering, yelling abuse, calling talk back radio to abuse a player, stopping players while their shopping at the supermarket, sending social media messages about their poor performances, etc.
Other than letting off steam, how does that honestly help a player/young player/team?
It doesnā€™t.
Our club isnā€™t alone in its poor treatment of its players. But in the past we have created poor working environments for some the greats of our club, because at the time supporters were frustrated by their performance. Scott Lucas, Paul Salmon, Brent Stanton, etc.

Itā€™s simply not on, Especially for a young player who settling into the AFL and life as an adult.
The vitriol of many EFC supporters towards Aaron Francis was beyond disgraceful. If you want proof, go back to the trade week thread.

The club handled Aaron poorly since coming to the club, they didnā€™t handle the external criticism of him appropriately. They handled the supporter criticism of him poorly. But supporters need to have a look in the mirror about the role it can play to make players feel at home and supported, while all the external pressure is happening; like newspaper articles, opposition supporters, etc.

Do you know that for a fact?

Lets not make assumptions about what causes distress among individual players. Cooney admitted he made the mistake of looking at social media, and so have others. I have not read anywhere that Francis was effected by it.

I am not privy to what goes on inside the 4 walls of the club but I would assume the club very strongly recommends that players not take any notice of social media criticism.

Every week players are evaluated and face criticism and are dropped and they have to be able to handle it. Like everybody, they have to recognise their own limitations and try to improve, but accept it when they reach a limit.

It was also in the memo the AFL sent out after Round 4. Iā€™m sure itā€™ll be in the memo they send out after Round 12.

Tim Watson reckons they will bring him in in 1-2 weeks. Inside info? Maybe.

In the 3 games he played in 2016 he had no problem with skills. Now he might be able to run an AFL game out a lot better.

or just common senseā€¦ another 2 weeks of good form and hed almost be a certain starter for the seniors.

Not that much of a leap. Also said heā€™ll be every bit as good as Petracca and De Goey.

Heā€™s an exciting talent!
Can never have enough guys that can win the ball in contested situations at ground level or in the air.

His kicking skills and intercepting are just the icing.

In my opinion he is only behind Joe and Raz for ability.

Iā€™d like to see some good consistent performances from the senior team before we bring him in.

Iā€™d love to see Francis as more of a ā€˜cherry on topā€™.

If weā€™re going to dish out performances like the first 8 weeksā€¦ keep him in the VFL. IMO, keep building his confidence.

But if we are playing like we did against Geelongā€¦ get him in.

So if weā€™re struggling, donā€™t bring in someone who could possibly improve the team?
