#10 - Isaac Kako - Dons go whacko til 2029

Its only pre season but that was as good a pure small crumbing forward game as I can remember for us.

In my supporting life time we havnt been blessed with small forwards who play the position properly. Kako is a very very nice breath of fresh air.

I love Kako!

He is the quintissential high energy small forward that can do damage with attack and defence.

Cyril was the prototype. Tippa had that ability too.

If you look at the top small forwards in the competition, Papley, Cameron, Daniels, Hill, Pickett, Watson, Stengle, they are predominantly attacking weapons.

Not sure there is anyone in the comp with the balance of attack and defence that Kako brings. It’s a massive weapon and he’s ours.

Go Kako!!!

Hopefully Huss El Ackhar has a good season and can slot in right next to Kako

he is a great mark too he has big hands for a small forward. tough matchup. imagine how ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  off we would be if the rules changed and he was running around for another club.

You mean if the rules WEREN’T changed. If they hadn’t changed it, we couldn’t have matched the early bid.

The thing that really impressed about Kako’s 4th was Draper’s agility… seriously, how the hell did he launch 3 deep, get a fist on the ball, roll, then literally in the next instant, seen running besides Kako celebrating… WTF!

I liked when IK went upfield a couple of times and got his hands on it.

So quick. The kids great.

I don’t want him to leave the forward 50. Let guys like Gresham push up the ground. Keep this guy near the goals.

This was the Tom Edwards thread last week.

People already saying he’s as good as Watson after a single practice match is amusing. He may very well be as good, but I’d want more than a single practice game before I rip the lid off.

I had a chuckle at those comments too.

He’s clearly waaay better than Watson.

David King said it best he’s a front and center machine is so quick and knows where the fall of the ball is coming to crumb.

One other thing to add from my end is, the oppositon are going to go after him physically pretty soon (as much as you can in today’s game). If I was Brad, I’d put it on Drapes and Caddy that if anyone tries any roughhouse tactics and looks to intimidate him, you boys are in there like a flash to protect him. We need to send a message to the comp that you can’t walk all over us anymore.

That’s very true. And it also highlights even more why you need more than one GUN small forward too.

You want at least two who opposition clubs are genuinely frightened by how dangerous they are. Hard to clamp down on both. I personally don’t see Gresham at that level. I hope he has a good year by his standards though. That would be helpful.

And then maybe one other who is just a workhorse who does the unglamorous stuff is fine (i.e. a Guelfi level).

I was pleased to hear brad acknowledge in his interview the other day how important small forwards are now. I agree we definitely need another dangerous one to go with kako, then we’re set. Hopefully one jumps out this year.

I’ve been watching both kako and el ackhar since they were 15, i actually think el ackhar is the better player up to age 17, but kako exploded last year. El ackhar is more a midfielder, has great goal sense too but is not as quick and agile as kako, so i dunno if he could play full time small forward at afl level.

We go after Bobby Hill imo

That horse has bolted, unfortunately.
I still wonder if Rosas might not have shown his full potential yet

SEH may be the other small forward. Time will tell if he can produce at Senior levels. He seemed to have the skills and understand the role in the twos last year. Small sample tho
