He did have the same injury as Robey though and Robey is a first year player, playing inside mid against bigger bodies and holding his own.
I know Kako is one of the strongest players at the club power to weight ratio, but you really don’t see it in one on one contests or tackling at the moment.
Is that the pre season where we had reports about how we were flying and looking good for an improved year. Those pre season Kako reports need to be looked at through a retrospective lens.
He should be playing reserves as his form has been poor and to keep playing him in the seniors will only damage his confidence. In his last 6 games he’s managed just 1 goal and averaged 8 possessions..El Achkar looks like a much better prospect at this stage
As daf said, Kako was flying preseason then suffered 2 long term injuries that clearly stalled his momentum. Playing in the 18th worst team, in a position impacting productivity, doesn’t help. He’ll be fine.
Fitness isn’t the thing that’s most pressing for Kako. His innate lack of defensive pressure or willingness to tackle with intent has nothing to do with fitness.
The knock on him in draft year was defensive pressure and intent. It’s still a weakness and any development plan for Kako that doesn’t ferociously focus on addressing this weakness is an example of a club that is failing to develop young talent.
Kako is talented and will be a good small forward. He has to understand the required defensive standard as non negotiable and if he does he will be terrific. It’s up to Kako abd a challenge for development at Essendon.
He needs Huss to show him how to stick tackles, it will help create some goals for himself on quite days. It is suprising how his tackles don’t stick because I mentioned previously I saw a video where the players said he is the strongest at the club power/weight ratio. Maybe it’s intent.
