#11 David Zaharakis - Surviving half-Ironmans

Restricted is he not? Not that I’d wanna bluff someone with a big $$ contract for him.

Take the end of first round compo and move on.

Zaha will be 28 next February. Doubt he’ll ever become any better. From his point of view I reckon a change of clubs on a big contract would be enticing, plus maybe the prospect of finals football.

Or he could plod along at Essendon for 3 years.

You’re not going to get an end of first round compo. You might get a second rounder. [quote=“Gwilty, post:1558, topic:451, full:true”]

His next 4 years at current levels are likely better than what you will get from most second rounders.

Keep thinking he’d be the sort of player to get a long career at North or Richmond but then realise he’s also had a long career at post-finals Essendon.

Sigh Remember when he was being talked about as a future captain of the club?

Was always fantasy

Showed good leadership on the YAKULT tour of Japan with melk

Don’t think that view was ever supported internally. Didn’t he get dropped from the leadership group last year before the bans?

Yep. It was a classic Blitz-ism, people kept coming on here talking about him as a future captain.

Was interesting on TF how Lloyd singled out Zaka as one we could lose to stay under the cap.

What cap? We oughta be cashed up.

The cap on the number of passengers a good side can carry

Yeah. And monfries - actually talked himself up as a future C

Do we love him or hate him this week ?

Just a bunch of people trying to convince the other side that they’re wrong.

Isn’t it great how Blitz tries to tear down any footballer who dares to have aspirations to be more than they currently are.

C grade?

Hey, at least that’s a pass mark.

Blitz talked up both Monfries and Zaharakis in their early days way more than they ever have themselves.

Blitz posters have a long history of going early on players to try and be ‘first’.
It is usually based on how the player trains, their VFL form, the body mass they’ve added, or intra club performance. Rarely on sustained performance through AFL seniors footy.

In the case of Zaka, his was actually based off AFL seniors form. Ditto with Monfries. The problem with both is that they both stagnated and reached a level they couldn’t break through. They are both average to good players that are capable of more here and there.

Both are good trade value if you don’t have the players around them to mask when they disappear through moments of a game.

Zaka has stagnated and it’s fair to call him out on it. Being demanding of players (internally and externally) is something the club hasn’t been good at. We tend to hang on to players because they did a few good things and we still think there is potential in the player.
