#12 Tom Cutler - Just Cut ✄

It’s okay. We have Laverde and Langford.

Brisbane fans rate him and are not happy they have lost him. He’s a big unit.

So is he depth or best 22? If he is best 22 who does he replace?

Cutler dons the sash

The Bombers have received an exciting boost with Tom Cutler joining Essendon via a trade with Brisbane at Marvel Stadium on Wednesday.

The club has traded pick 72 and a future third-round selection to secure pick 64 and Cutler, who received limited opportunities in the Lions’ senior line-up in 2019.

The talented utility played three games at AFL level this year – averaging 21.7 disposals, 8.3 contested possessions, five marks, 3.7 inside 50s and three rebound 50s – to take his career total to 66 from six seasons with the Lions.

Taken at pick No.33 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft, the big-bodied Victorian stands at 192cm and possesses a thumping right boot, aerobic prowess and flexibility across the ground.

The 24-year-old’s arrival will help bolster the club’s midfield, which was one of general manager of list and recruiting Adrian Dodoro’s key priorities for the Telstra AFL Trade Period.

“We’re really pleased Tom will be joining our club next season and feel he’s coming into his prime football years,” Dodoro said.

“He is a wingman with a lot of upside, speed and endurance. He suits the way we play.”

There is an extensive $$$ difference between Bonar & Cutler. Bonar was on between 300-400k for another 2 years, which we would’ve had to pick up completely. Cutler was out of contract and would’ve come a lot cheaper than that (possibly as much as half). Given they’ve thrown contracts at Shiel, Stringer, Saad & Smith in recent years and would’ve had to bump up Draper’s $$$ to repel the Saints offer, I doubt they’d want to take on a contract like that, with McGrath bound to get big money offers from others next year, and they’ll still be hopeful they can change Joe’s mind as well.

That’s ok then, I don’t mind Guelfi.

Like the part about endurance, we need more “gut runners”.

Some very nice finishing in that video, we’ll soon whip that out of him.
