#12 Will Setterfield

Yeah, they all just happen to be disproven by past history. A little like Snelling and Langford were both rubbish going into this year in many Blitzer’s eyes because they were injured throughout 2022. If it didn’t happen yesterday, it didn’t happen.

I don’t agree. At all.

They’re all pretty fair assessments for mine.

I think you are misinterpreting my use of the word ‘average’. McGrath and Langford are useful in those roles and they can play them to a reasonable standard. But compared to other players across the league they are pretty average - not poor, not amazing. They can play a role but they don’t stand out. McGrath and Langford stand out in those other positions, they are very good.

I think of the three, the BBM assessment was the most clear cut of the lot

We were right to call out that we needed a bbm
Only dodo couldn’t spot the need

Should match up with DeGoey at every centre bounce this week

Setterfield on Scott : He is very measured as a coach, doesn’t give away a whole lot. He backs his players in so much and gives you so much belief. He just instils confidence, and you just know he’s got your back at the end. No matter what happens, win, lose or draw, he always has our back. He is a great coach.

Gives a bit more context on how he backed Heppell despite his poor form.

Established great trust with the playing group.

They should just inscribe Fark Carlton above his locker

I would say McGrath was tracking to be a top level (Parish/Shiel level) inside mid, and Langford’s 2021 was comparable or better to all but 1 or 2 other winger/mids in the AFL. So no, I don’t consider the word average correct at all. I think Blitz just devalued both. Hell, we had people in the offseason not only questioning if Langford was among our better players, but whether he was best 22!

Except in 2021 when Stringer and Langford were both fit, that statement failed. The issue wasn’t playing big bodied HFFers in the middle/wings, it was not having them available in 2022 due to injuries.

You’re also assuming Dodoro makes the calls on what types to target.

I think we all need to disagree to agree.

Tracking to, for a bit, maybe. But he didn’t get there.

He was average.

He’s well above average in the back half.

In the AFL app in the player profile stats section you can compare how many categories he’s elite in as a defender this year to 2021 as a midfielder. He’s elite or above average in around double the number of categories this year.

Shiel possibly.
Parish no.

IMO.

And for the one that got us Terry Daniher, Neale Daniher, and as a later consequence, Anthony and Chris Daniher, and later still Joeudas Daniher and then who we got [?Archie Perkins] as compensation for him.
