The reality is Nick has a long way to go as an AFL footballer. He has shown glimpses of good potential but needs to work very hard on building his strength and get some confidence back.
Taller players tend to take a bit longer to develop, nothing unusual there. We’ve seen some good early highlights from him last year; we need to continue providing him the resources he needs to build his strength, confidence and craft - not worried
the general new age prototype of the wingman is running up and down the ground all day, bursting away with speed and hitting up targets (smith, hill etc).
He’s definitely had flashes of brillance no doubt, but it always seems to relate back relative to his height, ala if ham did some of the stuff cox has, most wouldn’t bat an eyelid.
it’s similar to laycock, or ryder or other similar players, what they do is always relative to their height.
that’s not to write him off, cos there’s obviously still alot there to work with and mould into him.
but WOB makes a good point, there hasn’t ever been a 200 cm superstar wingman ever before, so he’s got ahell of along way to go and going to have to continually fight the obvious battle against his height to skill ratio across his career.
Not overly worried. He will take a while to get confidence in himself. I think since the opposition have started to put time into him hes not finding it as easy. Hes a 200cm kid with prodigious athleticism and skills. It may take some time but he will get there.
what i dont get is the belief that he will find being a KPF any easier. He creates enough forward opportunities burning off his opponents and drifting forward anyhow.
I don’t see a traditional KPF role but think he has the height, athleticism and skill to play a 3rd tall forward role. Similar to Westhoff from Port years ago.
Think he could provide a great leading option with his running ability and he looks a pretty good mark.
Not totally against him developing on the wing but he does lack creativity with the ball and accumulation ability that I would normally associate with an outside mid.
