have we tried him on ball as like an outside mid - hes pretty quick isnt he?
I mean we tried him as an inside midâŚso why not?
Agreed, but also, Forward is the one position I see that minimises his âunicornâ status.
On a wing he should outmark everyone, still keep his aerobic advantage on display and kick it well off both feet. And he can drop back and rest forward and take important marks.
2nd tall back or even HBF/3rd tall he should outreach everyone, distribute it well alongside Reid Roberts and Johnson (?), and be more than mobile enough to negate any forward who would tout strength/speed as a differentiator.
Forward I donât see him outmuscling any monster backs who will take him, he isnât lightning enough to outrun/outlead anyone, and he takes a decent but not spectacular grab when adjusting for his size. A bit vanilla, weirdly enough. And heâll be hunted all day which is why forward is such a tough gig (not to mention his concussion issues which you pointed out).
You know what is needed here.
Just play him a high half forward and let him run the wings, present for a defensive exit and drop back as needed. There isnât going to be a half back that goes with him, much less than there was on a wing.
He is tall enough, and fit enough to get back and force his defender who dropped off to be accountable.
That said, sorry to say, but be patient with the kid whoâs barely been able to train due to concussion.
Not sure youâre right with WrightâŚ..movers and shakers at the Club see âThe Projectileâ in Archer May taking big strides as the 3rd tall forward in 2026! ![]()

straight through the centre in the VFL is what I would look to do. He would be taller and have enough pace to take advantage of it.
I like that, too. Would LOVE to see it work.
But looks like Coxy is starting to fill out?
And borderline flying
Looks great there, was on Dons insta

Well he isnât lying on the ground unconscious, so yes he looks better. Long may it continue.
Whoâs our second tall then?
Exactly. Why mess with what worked best?
Halfway through the video you can see Nik in the background. He definitely has changed his body shape. Training as a key forward too.
I reckon he will take Peter Wrightâs spot as a tall forward/second ruck. He is way more mobile than Wright so the new ruck rules will suit him.
Another key forward? Are we just putting everyone there and seeing what sticks.
