#13 Nik Cox - thru 2026 (Part 2)

I was genuinely surprised he got back after basically seemingly missing pre season with symptoms.

Odds would have to be against him now.

Whether you think he makes it or not will be a sad outcome.

Another mid season pick, going to be a record number of picks by a club.

Unfortunately, a call needs to be made. His health is too important to risk, particularly if he gets yet another knock

Not great when he seemingly didn’t even cop a knock in that vfl game yet still didn’t feel right

If it comes to that there is the concussion panel that makes the decision.

Feel so sad for him.

In the gumby category. Very Unlucky for him

I cant remember if he was resigned before the concussion

That is shithouse news. He was actually building nicely in the VFL. Fingers crossed for the lad.

I think he was signed before as the concussion last year was quite late in the year. Very sad news particularly as it isn’t from another hit. I guess they will give him time until the end of this year and then make a call if indeed it’s our and his call. It might be the AFL’s call like with McGovern.

Did he have other concussions apart form the GC game?

This latest setback is bad news for all involved, especially young Nik. I feel for him and fear for his career, but fear for his health even more. Hopefully he makes a full and complete recovery, even if he retires, but l still hope he is not lost to the game.

Are there any cases of an athlete suffering ongoing concussion issues recovering completely and going on to have a long career and issue free retirement?

My instinct is no.

You see the odd story of seeing a specialist in USA that apparently works but dunno if its long term works

Far out. That sucks. Hopefully he can make a full recovery. Doesn’t sound promising for an AFL career though…

Was really looking forward to seeing what he could bring to the side in the back half of the year. Especially up forward.
He looked stronger through the hips and legs.

Get well young fella.

Reality is, that’s nearly impossible. The long career part would require full recovery first then luck to no longer have any further accidents. More prone to mental health issues later in life too.

The more you have the concussions and subsequent ones, the more dangerous, and longer symptoms take to recover from (if they go away completely at all).

I’ve still got symptoms from multiple concussions in November, one in December then one in early January. Three of these were minor, but hadn’t recovered from the first and it’s a major b*tch to be honest.

It’s not really worth the risk to play on, and the advice I’ve been given is to treat the next hit like it will kill you, because it could. So that’s why since this has happened to me I get real anxious with Libba in particular.

Anyways, wish Nik well, it’s a battle and just really unlucky.

They should be putting him on the LTI now and sending him to what ever specialist he needs in the world to give him a shot at coming back next year if the specialist say nah then retire him and pay him out before the draft.
I wonder if this is part of the jones contract why we did it with limited tall backup

The unfortunate thing with it all, is it’s mostly just time. And everyone recovers differently.

There’s no fix for it, and it’s just when he’s ready he will be ready.
Could be next week, could be in two months.

Would want to leave the spot open so he’s got something to work towards coming back to.

Otherwise yeah medical retirement could be an option
