AFL: After injuries to stars Tom Green and Sam Taylor, new recruit Clayton Oliver looms as an even more important piece to the Giants in 2026

Essendon defender Jordan Ridley is facing another six weeks on the sidelines with a suspected serious calf injury.

Ridley’s nightmare soft tissue problems continued on Friday morning when he hurt his calf at training.

The injury-plagued backman has had scans and will meet with club’s high performance and medical staff across the weekend to discuss another recovery.

It is a shattering blow for Ridley who briefly considered a trade last year and met with Brisbane Lions over his injury frustrations.

The club overhauled its high fitness staff to help get on top of its injury woes.

But despite the considerable optimism around the new program, Ridley has gone down again.

He is expected to miss at least the first month of the new season as the club will be cautious with his latest rehabilitation.

They weren’t really interested not much you can do they didn’t even make offer i think

Could have traded him for fk all

This will be 12 weeks out… you can bank that. Horrific news and its as grim as it gets for Jordan.

I feel for the guy but at some point you have to think that Murphy and co were not the problem for him.

His body either isn’t cut out for professional sport or he is not being professional and following the programs being set out for him.

He seems quite professional so unfortunately I think it’s just his body can’t deal with an elite sports environment

Poor guy
