I nerded out in this the other day.
Since his calf injury late 2023, heâs broken down in games 6 times, and got through 20.
Yep him and Redman the club didnât really make bad decisions. Both were young, fit, and on the up.
Just decisions that did not pan out.

The Parish decision is the one you could argue against. One elite year in 2021, then two injury riddled years. No idea how you can justify giving the guy a 5 year deal off the back of that.

Ridleyâs was poor too.
Still had a full 2 years to run on his existing contract so no need to do anything until mid year at earliest

This ignores it was almost certainly being done to manage future salary cap.
Doesnât mean itâs a good contract.
Can see it being another heavily front loaded contract where the players leaves after getting the cream

Thatâs a risk that you take to free up future salary cap. The flip side is you have more negotiating power if they leave.
Depends how good their manager is or how tight for cap space the destination club is. A decent one will tear up the contract and get the new club to hand over a decent contract

We are pretty much shafted no matter what happens with Ridley now unless he magically becomes unbreakable and plays out the rest of his Essendon career injury free
