I thought the opposite, after reading comments last week from posters I was paying particular attention to it. He just seems to make good decisions with his disposal in traffic.

Yep the decision making was spot on, he isn’t quick but knows how to play and reads things well.
This performance showed why the comparisons with Tsatas are way off the mark.
You can question his ceiling as a player if you like (although personally I’m not counting out any possibilities yet), but his floor is super high. He’s big, works super hard defensively, and is always poised no matter the situation. You can play him just about anywhere on the field and he’ll continually get to contests and impact them positively. As a junior he played as a half back, midfielder and half forward, proving himself capable every time.
One thing that always stood out to me as a junior was his poise in traffic and spacial awareness. He always knows where his teammates are. He just does the simple things to a high standard.
I understand there will be calls to stick him straight into the midfield but I think he’ll spend most of the season at half forward with only occasional rotations through there… and that’s completely fine I feel. We need an upgrade in that pressure forward role and he’s very capable there.

Whilst I think the same will happen, Brad has to be flexible enough to throw him in the mix if it isn’t working. Yesterday was a prime example where our mids got slaughtered all day and would have been great for Dyson to get a half in the middle

PLEASE PLEASE dont make him play half forward. He is a mid. Play him there. I don’t care if others are in front of him currently - those others have done SFA in leading this team or turning it around. Time for the new blood

6+ score involvements is very good midfielder territory. 9 is nuts.
His champs he was 7.5 ish average which is very high. Not the best players in the comp hit those numbers.

I’m actually all for him playing a HF apprenticeship (which he played in champs) if warranted to accomodate 1st year conditioning and learning dual positions.
The lack of versitility in the list is a contributing reason for our club’s current predicament. Add strings to his bow, develop him appropriately, it didn’t do Petracca any harm.

Hinkley noted it on the commentary yesterday but there was a passage where he got back to help in D50, got the clearance, sprinted down the wing passed some of his own teammates, then was up at the next contest on the forward flank kicking the ball inside 50. Yes it’s just a practice match but that’s elite two way running from a 18yo player. We of all teams need lots more of that.

I was very impressed with the way he covered the ground, had assumed he would probably be a bit slower given his contested ball strength. Awesome work rate & great to see that he can slot into the half forward role.
