#15 Jayden Laverde - 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝓛𝓪𝓾𝓰𝓱 𝕃𝔸𝕍 (Part 1)

Kobe needs to refine his kicking a bit (too many floating helicopters) and learn when it’s a better option not to go balls and all into the contest. He can be a bit reckless at times. There’s a pretty decent footballer in there though I reckon.

I agree. On your latter point, the club has been trying to get him to have a more contested element to his game, sometimes playing him as an inside midfielder to give him no choice but to scrap for his own ball. It’s just not his thing. They have tried the same for Ridley and gotten the same result.

I see Mutch in the Gaff mold. Big tank, high possession player, not quick at all, low penetration on kicks and not a great user. I would be trying to get him to further build his tank so he can continue to out work and out run his opponents.

He works hard but I don’t think he has the required skill set to be a long term prospect. He’s the type of guy I can see hanging around for the next couple of years and play half a dozen mediocre games.

If we didn’t have Stringer he would be in my side.

He’d need to have a very good 2020 to get another contract

Who are we talking about?

Mutch.

Who else would we be talking about in the Lav thread?!

I think the needs to learn to run faster.

That’s what I thought, but was a little confused.

I think it’s hard to know. He was ahead of Clark before getting injured. I’m hopeful he might grow into a Matt Crouch type accumulator, but might need to improve his work at the coal face.

I personally always had Clarke ahead but I’m not sure Woosha knew what to do with him where as Mutch was a little more obvious.

We cut into a lot of the dead wood this year and it now exposes a lot of these guys in that 20-23 year old age group who haven’t cemented a place yet.

2020 will be illuminating on quite a few levels I believe.

I think he’s the type that will flourish under Rutten/Caracella plays with aggression which is the type of player they would want.

Our development on players coming in has been rubbish

Not up to speed, he played in 2018 and nothing last year…

I haven’t seen improvement from a lot of the kids that came in a few years ago

Clarke should have played sooner than he did!
Ridley should not have been dropped.
BZT should have played more senior footy…

They all need more game time and good development…

Mutch is delist material imo plus is injury prone.

He should have gone before Mynott

if football doesnt work out Laverde should follow Travis Flamels footsteps.

I agree, it’s a shame we haven’t seen what he can do at senior level yet. Hopefully his time doesn’t pass before then.

Haven’t been a huge fan of his over the last 2 years, but there’s a big upside with no Mbrown next year. IMHO he’s a much more natural fit physically as half-forward than deep deep forward where he’s been.

I hope you’re right, HAP. I’ve been a big fan of Laverde since his draft year but I haven’t seen him have the tank to compete off the half forward line consistently. Here’s hoping he has a solid preseason so he can get a proper run at it.

Brown was only in side due to injury to JD.

If Daniher, Smack, Stringer and smalls leaves no room for him.

If either of the two kpf are out, Stewart will play (or Hooker moved fwd) not Laverde in.

He’ll be Stringer back up only IMO

I think he’s played his best when Stringer has been out, he provides a similar dynamic to Stringer when deep forward, if they could split that role and Jayden could also rotate through the midfield, either as a Stringer like bull or even on the outside like Cutler, he could become part of a very potent mix.

Yup. Laverde has missed a lot of preseasons so tank hasn’t been there to play more on-ball, wing/high fwd. Some luck with injury, getting to know his body better etc. might give him the preseason he needs to finally show off his ability.

It’ll be one or the other with Lav - injured again or best season ever… if the latter, look out
