#16 “OMG it’s Archie” Perkins (Part 2)

Nah I know. I just really want him to be good.

It is a virus on Blitz but really we all want Jamie Elliot. Time to walk Perkins.

He was alright today. Some shocker moments.

His first goal the opponent fell over/tripped.
His second goal he actually did well to not get sucked into the contest, and seagulled off Menzie’s hard work. Lets hope it was game smarts and not a lack of desire.

Not enough after an awful season. Opponents aren’t just going to trip over and give him goals each week.

Expect he gets one last season to make a career of this.

^ I hear it but tired of the same diminishing returns.

Perkins’ flaws just may work better elsewhere. Time to cast..

FFS is it so hard to give due credit when he does things well.

Positioned himself perfectly, and executed perfectly. Nothing more to it.

Keep him and back ourselves to unlock his potential.

I agree, he’s been improving. Stringer like game last night 15 and 2 goals. I still have hope he’ll find a way to put it together consistently

The desire bit was a callback.

It’s not good enough that the highlights of his year come in Round 20 something against St Kilda when his opponent falls over or when he doesn’t join the contest.

Remain open to a trade. Won’t lose sleep if he stays one more.

And you double down.

If you don’t rate him, that’s cool. If you want him traded, no stress. But searching for an opportunity to bag him, off a play that he absolutely nailed is just weird.

He played well.

Doubling down / consistency of opinion. I do expect park footballers to do the above.

He’s had a great injury run and more chances than most would dream of. Lets hope he comes good, because we need durable footballers.

He was a bit better against the Aints but I still reckon he’s depressive - maybe manic-depressive, but can we afford waiting for his pendulum to swing back to manic ?

Maybe we should go after a better option - someone about a year younger who plays a similar style but more effectively and less predictably and who’s not a Brighton Grammar product - someone like Nesiah Wanganeen-Milera…

Always seems to look good against average opposition.

Buckley was talking him up a bit during the coverage, hopefully he comes knocking when he is Melbourne coach.

He’d make a good melksham replacement. And they need all the forwards they can scrounge together.

Interesting you use Melksham as an example another talented player that just wasn’t quite working at Essendon. A lot of fans weren’t sad he requested a trade either.

If we had a track record of being able to do this, sure. But we really don’t.

We don’t really have a track record for anything positive. But, for me I think there is more value in working with him than trading him for say a pick in the 30s. There is a real player in there. At some point our further investment in development coaches needs to pay a dividend.

It’s hard to think of any other player from any Club within living memory who has played a 100 games, yet is still being thought of as having unlocked potential!

They didn’t make him into something he wasn’t, Melksham is a very good HFF. Perkins can be the same, park him there, lock the position away and recruit elsewhere. We wanted Petracca, DeGoey type, we got a Melksham. It’s fine. Take it, learn why and do better next time.

Exactly. To be fair, I think we’ve finally seen an acceptance from the coaches that he’s a half-forward and we need to settle him there. Despite all the injuries he’s barely played any midfield time the last few weeks.
