And not be a cat.
He has played better since returning but still hates the physicality and tries to avoid contact far too much
He’s very slow, and has the turning circle of a Kenworth. We need to recognise his strengths and his main weaknesses - slow and no endurance. I think he is best as a deeper forward, working in with May and Caddy, along with 2/3 genuine quick small forwards - Kako, El Ach, .
Instead of playing him in a small forwards role/high half forward, where his lack of pace and endurance is continually exposed.
I was suddenly struck by how one sided he is on Sunday night. Got himself into trouble a few times trying to get back onto to his right or kicking on his right when he shouldn’t have been
Can he play a Gunston type role?
If he has a strength it is definitely as a lead up forward.
Would this work closer to goal?
Either him or Langford play this role whilst Archer May is out?
Overall, hes been good since returning.
I know that stats wise he isn’t having a big impact, but I’m not sure that a half forward in our team is going to have much ball.
He does need to watch someone like Keays and follow his running patterns and get running ability way up.
Tassie trade bait
While l agree he has improved in recent weeks, l question whether his output is good enough for ehat we need hi m to be. He is still reluctant to commit to a contest, and has lost the dynamism he displayed when he was first drafted.
He is an obvious delist/trade come season for me
We have seen what he is capable of over these past 100 games, and it’s just not good enough
Time to move on
The way we’re going, Perkins will pretty easily keep his spot on the list.
I feel its more Perkins may test the waters for more opportunities, like Carlisle, this place is …
He could be steak knives in a Darcy Wilson deal.
I’m fine with him doing whatever gets him out if the club the quickest
has put in an improved effort since returning and I can be more forgiving when he’s given fair treatment and not that red carpet hollywood treatment bs brad gave him for 100 games.
we’ve played freo who are good but also richmond and west coast.
those are two VFL teams and perkins still looks like he’s out of his depth
near/in the contest he either hears footsteps, back into trouble, misses targets, kicks straight to the opposition, or gets pushed over. his footy iq is really low and that dampens his decent kicks.
im happy to give him to the end of the year, as long as huss and nguyen and artemis prime get their shots too. but i wouldnt want another 110 games of this. an easy trade/delist for me.
He is an interesting case. Does the club renew him if he stays on this trajectory or even gets a bit better. Think he will find another club.
We are cooked if this is reality
Stats wise he’s been pretty solid – 18 touches a game as a half forward is pretty good going for a half forward. Only Darcy Parish has had more inside 50s in the last month. His metres gained numbers are solid. He’s been right at the top of distance covered for us every game.
I think we obsess over him being the player that he was in that round 1 game against Hawthorn years back. He’s just a role player at the moment, but he’s doing that fine, and that’s ok – we need those types.
I’d agree. Half forward just simply isn’t a roll where you get massive stats. Players like Mannagh, Neal-Buller and Keays average around 17 touches a game.
Though he can still work on defensive work and scoreboard impact
Except that the two key traits of a HF are to kick goals and keep the ball in the forward half, and Archie is not achieving either.
That is literally my point.
Yep, I get that, but some here overrate his game because he is getting more possessions. It is an improvement, from a very low base.
Absolutely needs to play in a more structured, more predictable movement setup.
That said, I still wonder where the first year agility and instinctive play went.
No one de-develops like Essendon circa 2003-2026.
