#16 “OMG it’s Archie” Perkins (Part 2)

So no news here. Geez

Who would you say is this journeyman player in our past or in other Teams ?

Archie right now is a below average journeyman, way below.

Would be happy to trade him for a 2nd round pick. One of Brad’s undroppables.

My bookmark just went off, do it archue

The average journeyman ( depending on the understood definition ) is a competent player, not a star, superstar or megastar, but a player who can get to 100 to 150 games maybe even more, often at multiple clubs, rarely gets a Brownlow vote, and probably never gets 3 votes . About 1/3 of every club best 23 comprises these blokes.

Eg. Duursma, Laverde, Setterfield, Perkins, Guelfi, McKay, Prior.

I think a journeyman has to play at more than 1 club, if all your other criteria is meet and you only play at one club your a “good average player”.

Sure but the definition varies, so yes if strictly speaking in Australia a “journeyman” must have played at more than one club, while in many countries it applies to an average competent career player, and we are in Australia, so you are correct.

Flatheads son a dead ringer for Perko:

Yeah nah. ‘Journeyman’ has nothing to do with travelling from club to club. It’s a worker paid by the day (‘jour’).

How is this bloke’s name not all over the trade threads?

He has no value. Hard to get a rock hard trade nob over a potential 4th round pick.

Because no one wants him?

Wouldn’t be the first word that meaning has changed over the years. I think if you ask most AFL punters they would associate that word with playing for multiple clubs and not being a superstar.

It definitely has always meant not being a superstar. I’m just not sure we’re at the point where common error becomes accepted definition.

This bloke needs to be living on a running track getting super fit and fast.

Flying under the radar in the off season….so far.

Yep.

Practice defensive running, second and third efforts, and goal kicking.

Think he’s got to just focus on being a really good forward. Not sure if there’s much more to him unfortunately. But if he can get the forward bit solid consistently we’ll be better for it.

I’d be happy for him just to work on his first efforts.

Geelong will get him cheap as chips next year, turn him into star and embarrass us in the process on how to develop players

Been going on for years. Just not with our players.
