#16 “OMG it’s Archie” Perkins

Feel like throwing Saad in the forward line for one game would have been a better option

He will be fine, there is a real player in there somewhere, the coaches will find it.

He is a bit of an odd cat, but in terms of ability and the types of things he is good at, we do need more of that. At his best he is the best kick inside 50m outside of Merret. He marks well and he is pretty good one on one. He looks lost for the most part to me at least in the midfield. Just seems far more comfortable having the ball kicked at him. But he needs to get fitter and he needs to offer more the other way. He’s had a poor season but I think he is a player we want to retain and develop. I have more faith in Perkins that I do Reid, Cox or Hobbs.

Agree generally but Reid is my great white hope

It appears he needs to work harder on 2 way running. He seems patchy within games, but I have not correlated his time on ground to his performance. When he disappears within games, is he spending a lot of time sitting on the bench ?

This guy should be a lock in our side, yet is struggling to make best 22. The 2020 draft will haunt us-for a long time. I still have hope he’ll become a good AFL player. But he’ll never reach his potential.

He’s a half forward. Develop him there. He has good attacking instincts so I’d just encourage that side of this game to become elite.

All this midfield stuff has gotten into his head imo and now his confidence looks stuffed.

His best move is when he cuts back inboard and hits the kick. But I’ve just realised he is completely right sided. Opposition have worked him out, he has no left side?
Another top ten pick that has severe limits.
No tank, no left foot, no defensive running.

I feel like he is good field kick and decent kick for goal. Any role that doesn’t require him doing too much chasing as he is lazy

Archie is Jack Watts mk2. Can look a million bucks when he can be stuffed . But really will never get any better than he is now . Trade him to Geelong asap

Not as good as Jack Watts.

So can we trade him for pick in the 30s and get a Fritsch type?

When will this bloke pull the digit out and become a bonafide star

Dods finally picks a kid with arrogance that’s not a complient Mr nice guy.
You have to ask, is the problem with Archie or with the club, I think it might be the latter.

Never. Will just be an average plodder for 200 EFC games

I agree. He should be a pretty decent footballer. At another club perhaps. He’d likely embarrass us (again). The Essendon system doesn’t develop many footy players.

Don’t think it laziness, I think he just gets a little lost when he’s not near the ball. He was great defensively when he was given run with roles, he doesn’t look like he always understands what he’s meant to be doing in the zone though.

After 4 seasons and about 80 games, then will Perkins ever understand what to do!

Possibly?

The whole club needs a Leading Teams style intervention like the Cats in 2005 leading into 2007, and Archie would be one that needs a whack right between the eyes.
