#16 “OMG it’s Archie” Perkins

Culture.

You’d think that knowing how to spell Gatorade backwards would be enough

‘Development’

I don’t really see a role for this guy going forward. He isn’t a tall and I’d prefer the rest of the forwards outside of the talls to be good small pressure forwards next year. He creates zero pressure. Plus in the midfield he barely gets the ball and is also a liability defensively. I think he has skills and could work in a team with a good system, but at Essendon he adds to our problems.

Not the most scientific of analysis… but had a quick look at Archie’s season fantasy points profile and compared him to another Bomber i.e. Duz. And I know Duz played more mid than Archie as the season wore on but both are similar in age, size and style but with variation in their individual strengths e.g. Duz has a decent non preferred side kick and has a higher consistent workrate.

Quite a difference. After R1 I thought great, this was to be Archie’s breakout season me being a fan of him. Nowhere near it in the end. He’s an enigma alright. So you’d think his end of season interview would’ve involved the question “well, do you want to be here at all Archie son? … because if so, it’s 2025 or bust”.

What do the various colours indicate ? A rainbow ?

lol …
Orange = below avg
Yellow = avg
Green = above avg
Blue = Elite

Thanks. At least there’s no red…

Shows how good of a season Duz had tbh

He’s clearly nonchalant, lacks hunger, is comfortable and so incredibly slow for a guy barely over 6 foot 1.

He’s the prototype soft Essendon footballer who shows tiny glimpses when he brushes off a tackle or delivers into 50, but apart from that is poor more often than not.

He’s played >80 games and I’m tired of guys like this making a 200 off game career at our club. ■■■■ him off. If he wasn’t a pretty boy the commentary in this thread would be very different.

Put him into Stringers spot. Tell him he needs to aim for 5 tackles a game and double figure pressure acts on top of scores and score involvements. Or whatever is deemed appropriate.
If he has targets and hits them, his confidence will hopefully grow and it’s onwards from there.
Stringer, if he is in the squad or not, is not the future.
If Archie doesnt hit the targets for 2 or 3 weeks running, drop him with clear instruction on what he needs to do to get back in the team.
Moving players from position to position seems to have a negative impact on their consistency when they are still developing.
Give them a role. Give them KPIs and give them clear outlines on what happens if they dont achieve them.

Connor McDonald is basically what we hoped Perkins would become.

He just needs a couple of wires in his brain crossed/snapped so he turns into a wild animal.

Then he’ll could be 2000 EFC material.

Failing that, though - and I think that change indeed won’t happen) - he will never reach his potential.

Perkins seems happy just to be an AFL footballer. 4 years into a classic Essington mediocre career.

Wouldn’t chase anyone if they stole his wallet.

Only thing he chases is tail at the night clubs.
He’s another one of those Essendon like to be an afl footballer type and the perks that goes with it but doesn’t want to truely work to become good

Delist him then and make an actual statement

He’d be up for trade if I had a say in it

I think Archie started believing his own press after R1 and then when it all didn’t come easily he didn’t know how to turn it around. And I think the injuries early gave him the mental out, and it wasn’t until later in the season him and the coaches realised how bad it was.

Archie gives off major vibes of “I love the status of being a footballer” but “I can’t be assed putting in the effort to maximise my abilities”.

Absolute waste.

I’d legit trade him, or give him the Jones talking to that allegedly happened last year which seems to have worked for him and one last shot to put the work in to be a professional footballer, or straight up fk off.

Knew something was up when we was patrolling in from 35 out and decides to pass off to a contest at top of goal square instead of kick the goal.
Devoid of all confidence.

Why the coaches kept rolling with him, when he was clearly sooooooo out of form, would like to know.

He’s had 4 pretty uninterrupted years of continuity in his football to this point.

On the evidence so far he’s just turned out to be not as good as what people were hoping for.

Like pretty much every player from his draft.
