Some ancient Greek said: “Call no man happy until he is dead”. Some careers go on too long, not to the point where you fade away in the 2’s, playing the odd backup game, or limping through being rested, but instead brought into centre-stage under the spotlight and found wanting. So you don’t get the love and plaudits that you might get as a veteran (even a veteran that crosses from another club) not even impatient tolerance, you get straight out scorn. Not glory or fame but infamy and resentment. And that’s not on Goldy at all (though there’s a point you’ve got to realise you are indded cooked) - it’s on the one that picks him.
