#18 Lewis Hayes - thru 2026

5 debutants: El-Hawli, Edwards, Kako, Hayes, Day-Wicks. Who’s the third mature aged recruit?

Prior.

Oh, we’re counting club debuts as debuts? Feels like a pretty different thing to talk about, but fair enough, I haven’t been following the discussion that closely.

I think everyone just says debutants. I assume they mean for Essendon.

that’s it. Kako is the only one who you’d lean to he would have been played no matter what.
edwards was picked cos langford was injured, and wright wasn’t ready
Hayes is picked cos ridley is injured
Day wicks is picked cos gresham is injured
saad got a game cos can’t remember who got injured.

it’s like congratulating a child for tieing their shoelaces for the first time when you’ve just brought then slide on shoes with no laces.

Positive is Hayes in.

Negative is I said I wouldn’t criticise Scott for 2 weeks if he selected him…

Surely not. Otherwise last year we had Ben McKay, Jade Gresham and Xavier Duursma “debut”. Makes no sense.

Of course he gets injury on debut. Fucken cursed this club.

Do we know what he did?

ACL or MCL

Oh god

It didnt look like an ACL

But who knows

The more innocuous it looks the more I brace for the worst.

Definitely seen a few ACLs with a similar mechanism.

Very much looked like an ACL.

Fingers crossed, but a good outcome here is unlikely.

Wouldn’t we have heard already if it was an ACL? it’s pretty easy to diagnose fairly accurately

No it didnt.

Didn’t look like a MCL moi either.

Knee buckled inward with bodyweight over the joint with femur advancing forward. Money has to be on ACL unfortunately.
