Looking at the top ten from that draft and we certainly picked the right guy. Watts (a good player now, but very poor for many years), NicNat (a good player, but has had serious injuries along the way), Stephen Hill (exciting but inconsistent), Hamish Hartlett (solid player, was terrible last week!), Hurley (elite, heading for 2nd AA, which would probably have actually been 3 in a row this year), Yarran (fail), Rich (good player, nice kick, T-Rex arms), Ty Vickery (LOL - first Richmond, now Hawthorn), Ziebell (Very good player, but who cares, he's at North), Phil Davis (scragger at best, I never understood the hype).
We also took Zaka at pick 23 (win), Michael Still at pick 55 (who?!), Tyson Slattery at pick 67 (an honest trier, but not good enough at AFL-level), and also traded pick 39 to Geelong for Prismall (Geelong picked Steven Motlop).
Bryce Carroll, Thomas German, Christian Bock, Kade Klemke and Irish Michael Quinn meant the Rookie draft was a fizzer for us as well (there were some pretty good players in the rookie draft that year - Jeff Garlett, Ricky Henderson, Jarryd Blair, Liam Picken, Luke Bruest, Tom Rockliff (PSD)). Plus we took Hayden Skipworth in the Pre-Season Draft.
Not the best of drafts, but Hurley is arguably the best player out of that year.
