Apparently he has been in hospital since monday. Not sure if true or not, but if it is must be a nasty one. May as well amputate to save the rest of him.

How the ■■■■ does ones leg get so badly infected that you need to go to hospital?

Could be that the fastest way to treat it is in hospital, so we are going the medically most effective route.

Could also be something more serious.

i saw a instagram story where someone got a small cut while gardening, then 10 hours later their hand was being amputated due to flesh eating bacteria and necrosis.

Was it in Darwin? Sounds like one of their local diseases, “Nightcliff Gardeners’ Disease”. (Sounds funny, but it is legit).

i think americans.

Paging @Heather_Mills

The funnier definition of essington is doing the same thing over and over again knowing it won’t work, but they still do it anyway cos they like the person, or the person is a good clubman .
I don’t even reckon people expect or want a different outcome anymore, they are ok with no success as long as their favs or “good club men” continue to get a game.

Maybe leather poisoning from the shift to the forward line.

But I hope he’s doing ok. Hurls is a champ

Hurley Forward? This flips the script on accepted AFL teachings.

An injury prone forward is often send down back for a bit of relief. I think that’s one of the reasons Hurls was sent down back after he did his wrist(s). They did it to Winders. He was a great small forward but they sent him down back to give him a break.

So yeah, Hurls is a ball magnet down back , but he will probably take a big ape of a defender and be even more injury prone as a forward.

I hope he does well but its a worry.

Melioidosis… can be fatal. It effects the respiratory system. Infected leg wouldnt be caused by melioidosis.

I check the thread to see how Hurley is and everyone’s talking amputations! That escalated quickly. I’m assuming there hasn’t been any updates from the club?

I knew someone who had something similar in Melbourne. Was literally cutting an apple and cut themselves. Hand blew up, was pumped full of all the good drugs and was touch and go whether they’d need to amputate at the elbow, but luckily the drugs kicked in just in time. (Or something like that, it was 15 years ago and I’ve blacked it out because it’s terrifying).

Remember when Smack got pneumonia like an 80yo?

It’s weird how prone football players are to infections (compared to the general population). We have certainly had a handful of players with infections of some description over the past few years, as too have other clubs.

I wonder if it is a combination of the environment (i.e. lots of people sharing equipment, change rooms etc) and players being so fit and working so hard that their natural immunity systems are compromised.
