I’d add a touch of Tom Hawkins as well, more than handy in the ruck and smart about where he directs it, and big hips. Should be an asset if we don’t kill his instincts

Hopefully he comes on as he’s the perfect 2nd ruck as he can play as the third tall forward and is agile.
When you have 2 genuine lumbering rucks playing with one of them trying to play forward (e.g. Draper and Bryan) ya know ya ■■■■
Draper not exactly lumbering but he can barely play forward. Having said that he did improve this area of his game later in season 2024. Goal kicking issue will never go away

We’ve taken too many talls who struggle with contested marking in the past. Definitely do not need another one of those.
I thought this myself coz he looks it, but doesn’t appear to be.

Every draft profile lists his marking/contested marking as a strength, so odd to see a few in here questioning it. Will admit I’ve not seen him play outside of the highlights though.
Also a chance his size helped with this a fair bit against many less developed bodies.

His contested marking got better as the season went on, but at the same time he was mostly playing against skinny midgets in the Colts.
I’m very happy with the pick but we’ll need to see how he develops.

Historically Essendon had been pretty solid on KPs with guys like Hurley, Hooker, Ryder, Carlisle etc etc. We all lamented our lack of mids and wished Dodoro knew how to draft a midfielder.
Recently the narrative completely flipped to the point where Dodoro apparently couldn’t have recognised a KP is he walked up to him and said “I’m a gun KP”.
Both positions were completely overstated.
Let’s just hope Gerreyne is good. The past is done, just let it go.
