#19 - Kayle Gerreyn

Found out last night I’d been pronouncing his name in my head wrong since he was drafted

Yes I realised that!!

He had a couple of moments last night that made me realise why drafted. He has some really nice natural attributes. Lots of development however.

Last night I saw why he was taken early.

The kinda player who will explode in a year or two. Just needs the time on the track. Plenty of VFL and no injuries is what I’m hoping for.

Yes I think he’s a keeper. It’s hard to explain what I saw last night, and there were only a few things but they were really good moments.

He is a bit of a rooster isn’t he. Love his agility for his size and he really hits the packs hard. I think, like with Caddy, some of the marks will start to stick more with a bit more time as he gets games under the belt. His tank needs to improve but that will come with time as well.

The thing that I loved about his performance last night was how crafty he was inside 50. Little flicks and handballs that put guys into a good position.

How is it pronounced?

Hope this helped

lol thanks

Having a look at the replay, seems like “Je-rhine” if they have it correct

He’s instinctive when the ball is in his area. The kick that went to Davey for his mark and goal, I’m fairly certain he change his intention from “have a shot” to “there’s an option” mid ball drop.

What he doesn’t yet have is the understanding of where to be in order for the ball to be in his area more often. Part of that is going to be the lower skills of VFL players not putting it to his advantage, part of it is that he doesn’t yet have the knowledge, familiarity with intent and running patterns. It’ll almost certainly come. He’s a talent.

Gerreyn for Jones on Anzac please.

I get the hype but I still think he’s a while off seniors selection unfortunately. He can barely run out at VFL game, let alone an AFL game.

Super sub?

Correct. I have heard him pronounce it that way himself.

It’s funny how views of youngsters can be influenced so much by which games people have seen. I watched the (VFL) round 2 match where he was completely anonymous, but missed round 1 and haven’t yet watched last night’s game. So, my current view on him is very different to others.

Same with Visenti.

I hope to catch this game over the next few days.

He didn’t do a lot, but what was apparent was his agility for a big man was good and he is very creative in bringing opportunities for team mates. He’ll definitely benefit when he has better players around him, but he’s still a bit away from afl level. Was disappointed for him when he had a good lead in the second and lual kick was simply not good enough

Yes please. Jones is a known quantity and is under performing. Get the kid in for a run, give him a taste of the big time. Let him fire up, and have the experience of AD.

Hopefully has a better career at Essendon than promising first year KP forwards Noah Gown and Patty Voss.

I don’t recall Gown ever showing a great deal of promise.

Seeing some of Noobs vision of him in the juniors, he always seemed a ruckman more than a forward.

I would compare him to SMACK, with more confidence and less head scratching moments.

It was a few years ago now but I’m pretty sure Gown topped the VFL goal kicking list when compared to all 1st year AFL-listed players. That to me suggests some promise and that he wasn’t a complete spud talent wise.

Not sure if it was true but I vaguely recall whispers that he was either an abrasive personality or didn’t have the professionalism required…or both.
