#19 - Kayle Gerreyn

^^^ this

Keep saying it we wasted 12 months playing him as a defender and everytime we’ve had a half competent side out there and he’s played forward he’s kicked goals and looked good!

Also to the comment about him Being uncompetitive a lot of his time as a defender it was a 19 year old non natural defender taking the 1st or 2nd most dangerous forward alongside Tyler Sellars and they had bags kicked on them for fun.

Argue a lot of defenders would look uncompetitive in those teams

Think Gerreyn’s future is linked to 2MPs longevity.
Big Pete turns 30 in a week and is signed to end next season. Surely he’ll be extended but he’ll need some sort of backup come 2028 I suspect. He cops plenty of knocks and bruises, this season as an example.

So, Vigo and Bryza as lead rucks (maybe an additional mature ruck gets traded in too).
Caddy, May and 2MP up forward ..
And Gerreyn looks a possible KP swingman but more effective up forward and chop out ruck to my untrained eye. But he should get games depth wise next season, and going forward he’s going to be a very valuable option.

Sign him back up ASAP Bombers.

He’s very talented.

Just hasn’t been able to show it consistently because of fitness, injury and being played out of position.

Unfortunately Jones still has 1 year to run on a contract….. so Gereyn will likely be released.

Nick Cox 4 years ago.

How old is Gerreyn?

32,

Except that he has a body that looks a lot more likely to be able to stand up to AFL footy

Surely we’re not releasing project KPPs that are 20 years old, it just makes no sense

I’m not advocating for him to be delisted BUT he’s the only player on our list that has not played a single game of AFL right? (Besides the irish lad)

There must be some reason for that no? Given he was healthy and playing KPD at a time when we were ready to push ridleys wheelchair to the D50 goal square in desperation to field a team

I’ve liked a lot of what I’ve seen of him but it would seem there is something we dont know/cant see

I’m not sure not playing says all that much, really. Particularly in 2025, talls quite often don’t play first year. This year absolutely, would have been nice to have had a look for one or two games earlier on.

Hopefully next year - with less competition on the list from the likes of Cox/McMahon/Jones - we get a good look at him. 100% would re contract.

His injury timing was really unfortunate as he was just starting to show his forward craft having moved back to the forward line. I think they will keep him on unless there is an attitude or other off field issues. Not sure why they haven’t brought him back in the VFL - we are already quite top heavy in the forward line so perhaps that’s why held off and not risking him?
