1972 Team Photo

I posted this series a few years ago but with the possibility these photos have been lost with the "old BB", I thought I'd bring them back from the dead.

Here's the 1972 team photo.

See how good your memory is.

good one   dons 1972

Fantastic memory work , bomber c. I was too young to know what they looked like (v little TV coverage of EFC in those days) though I remember the names very well.

Thanks for posting, dons'72. Great to have our history remembered.

I'd have thought that was Delahunty next to Neville Fields.

Which means it's someone else next to Don McKenzie.

So I'll guess Eddie Lake or Don Gross, but that's all it is, a guess.

Maybe I should take the pic into my local members office and get them all id'd. Embarassingly Hugh Delahunty is my local pollie.

Got no idea who he is definately not donny  gross or eddie lake next to macca  .

He has to be someone tall because hes greg perrys height.

I think the guy next to Fields might be Stuart Barclay. Played one game in 72.

And the first guy top left doesn't look like Hickmott.

Fortunate to have met Birt.
Don't think I'll ever meet a nicer "gentleman".

Bomber C has most of them right.

I'm pretty sure it is Stuart Barclay on the left in the back row.

The guy next to Neville Fields looks like ruckman/forward John Emin. He only played for us in 1973 but it sure looks like him.

It is indeed Ken Hogan seated on the left.

I agree you are right with emin  but he was not listed in my edition of flying higher in 72.

Yes, Emin definitely only played seniors in 1973 and I don't remember him being on our list in 1972 so it probably isn't him. I have checked my copy of Flying Higher and he doesn't look like anyone who played seniors in '72. He's vaguely familiar though but I just can place him.

I have had second thoughts about my Stuart Barclay nomination for the guy at back left too. He looks about the right size compared to Barry Grinter standing beside him but these team photos can be deceptive (Fields for instance looks almost as tall as Charlie Payne but he wasn't). I am warming to it being Eddie Lake now. Eddie was only a little guy so it is a bit surprising to find him in the back row but, then again, Fields is there.

Was my headmaster, and I used to see him each year at the PEGS footy day.

Am friends with one of his daughters.

John, or Mr Birt, as I still call him, is one of the best blokes going around.

If you ever see him again, ask him for his Mark Moran anecdote, they had a run in at a school camp. Very funny.

Will do.
Met him when he worked for a trophy place and would catch up every year as my guest at a footy function I used to help organise.
Fantastic bloke.
Introduced me to Geoff Leek, Bluey Shelton, Don McKenzie and Hugh Mitchell.
All ripping blokes with fantastic stories.

Yep    Correct

I think that might well be Delahunty next to McKenzie. Pretty sure that's not Barclay in the top right. I thought he was pale and curly-haired.
