#2 Big Sammy Draper (from May 2024)

Last good young ruckman we had crapped all over us 10 years ago.

Which year of stats are those? Because if it is this year’s then they’ll be awfully distorted by the time Draper has spent up forward.

They were this years and this one was last year

Christian Bock crapped all over us?

I’ve never forgiven him.

I don’t think it’s exactly breaking news that a ruck that rotates and rests forward has worse stats in the ruck than a guy that doesn’t

For example, here’s Jackson vs Pittonet

Yeah that’s right the illustration was that we would be better off with a journey man ruck man that could do as pittonet does and then have a proper forward in the team.
If you compare as you say Draper to Jackson being the ruck forward then Jackson spanks Draper in just about every category.

Yeah I agree Jackson is better and more of the prototypical ruck/foward you want in the modern game. But we also don’t have the luxury of picking those types off a silver platter, there’s barely any in the league as it is, and there’s also not a swathe of top shelf KPFs running around to trade in, such that we could get away with picking a low/mid-table ruck like Pittonet and not worrying about having one with forward craft as well.

Carlton can get away with it because they have 2 elite KPFs up forward, as well as TDK running around the midfield. We don’t have anything close to that

Nank will be trade bait at end of season, if we could get him cheap enough it could be an option. Depends on how long Goldy goes on for and if Draper is cooked or not.
Might be better just to get games into Bryan and Visentini

Whe’ve already done that. Hence Vigo Visentini who doubles as forward and ruck. He works well with Bryan.

Which in time is hopefully what we will have with wright caddy and jones or Hunter.
The two ruck thing for us really hurts our forward line because Draper isn’t a competent forward and he’s not a very good ruck either which I why I’d prefer we moved to a single ruck set up

Rumors that he is getting surgery.

Goldy has said that this is the best he has felt in a few years.

Draper is good for sponsorship. Kids love him. He is an average footballer though, not bad, but not good.

What, four on the list not enough?

Draper could be very important in the 2nd half of the year.

We don’t know how a 36yo Goldy will last with the rigors of a 23 Rd season, or how many rests will be required, particularly when 5 or 6 day turnarounds are involved.

Just get Draper right with his knee thru minor surgery, then a good block of training.
In the interim, get Bryan into the side and sacrifice a bench spot to make it happen.

It IS important to have context to things. In edition I am a big fan of the saying “experience is something you get after you needed it”.
The problem he had is he should have picked something more outlandish to say. Instead he chose something that a lot of people suspected was the case and suspect that a current player may have some insight into.
