#2 Big Sammy Draper (from May 2024)

Ohh this is fun, lemme do you. Out of touch, wannabe socialist, ex local government wanker who’s female companions all hate him and grandfather to a kid who doesn’t want to speak to him anymore.

About right?

So our doctors caused drapers injury,
Opposite calves can put pressure on the opposite achillies.

I played some soccer with a mate who ruptured his Achilles. I was standing a couple of metres from him and heard it pop.

We had to carry him off. His foot just dangled.

Whatever Drapes has done too it , it’s not as bad as it can be.

But saying that I can’t see it being anything other than a season injury.

Scott and the doctors putting him back on the field when he was clearly hampered is idiotic.

Brayden Crossley big unit BRING

Undersized Ruck that copped a 12 month suspension for doing coke. Bring.

In all seriousness though, I’ve been surprised noone took another chance on him given his form in the VFL the last few years.

Can’t believe he’s only 25, he looked 30 when he played for the suns

Bulldogs trialed him this pre season but yeah wouldn’t be a bad pick up for 6 months

Gotta be hard snorting a line with that massive brush under his nose

Crossley rucked almost single handed for WB in the pre- pre- season game against us in Feb. I remember thinking at the time he looked about as good as Bryan. Stronger but maybe not as mobile. But he looked capable of playing main ruckman at AFL level.

May be wrong, but it’s what the surgeon who did mine said. He convinced me to get it done where I was on holiday on the sapphire coast (Bega hospital) because although he mostly did retiree hip and knee replacements, he was very confident on being up to date (at the time) with Achilles. He’d had his own rupture repaired 3 years before. He got me to see Mark Blackney for follow up back in Melbourne. Blackney examined it and said “this is first class, it doesn’t get better than this”. Anyway he might have been wrong but he seemed pretty knowledgeable. He also noted people are about 1 in 100 to do an Achilles. If you do one, you are about 1 in 20 to do the other.

It’s also a Prohibitionist
Prohibits its offspring from supporting Essendon.
Hopefully the offspring can cope with following the Crows and digesting pie floaters

Not even close, except maybe for the wanker bit.

Remember Joey playing with an injury?
We need to learn to put certain key players in cotton wool
Can’t blame anyone- it is just so much bad luck for us

I know someone who did his Achilles playing a little social tennis - had to be carried off. Surgery and off his feet for about 10 weeks as I recall.

The fact that Draper hobbled off means its not a full rupture but some form of partial tear. that doesn’t mean surgery won’t happen. It will be up to doctor/surgeon as to the best form of treatment. Either way, I think he is out for at least 12-16 weeks, minimum.

That’s true…
There are some Consultants that for ruptures suggest just put the foot toes down into the first plaster of paris cast and let it reform/reattach naturally … gradually straightening the foot and recasting every few weeks. That treatment is fast disappearing as these days they go straight to surgery for ruptures. Full snaps … no choice, its surgery.

One Consultant likened the op to opening up the sheath that encases the fibres, cleaning it, pulling 'em all back together and tieing and stiching them together (like two bunches of spaghetti) and closing up. Letting the body and glue go to work, naturally restoring the tendon to more or less full function, albeit a little tighter and thicker. Some say it comes back stronger with the scar tissue holding it fast. I’d agree with that.

Drapes shouldn’t have continued. But someone else said here it was probably in a degenerative state anyway, so was likely going to happen one day and I’d agree on that prognosis too. The big thing is how wasted your calf becomes which after the roughly 3 months of plaster finally off needs careful but sustained strenghtening. That is absolutely key to recovery

But btw and N.B. I’m not a doctor … but been through them.

I’d wager a bet though, given the quality of orthopedic surgeons and techniques these days, he’ll be back as good as ever. But with a special program to look after both calfs going forward.

Oh yeah it would be a long rehab.

Longer probably for an afl player to get it right then match fit.

Put a line through drapes for the season.

I really hope it’s not the last time he’s in red and black.

We’ve done non-operative management of ruptures at work.
Wouldn’t recommend for an AFL player though.
