#2 Big Sammy Draper (from May 2024)

I really don’t want us to debut another tall this year. A lamb to the slaughter. Wait until the curse is lifted.

Just his manager trying to extract more from us. Crows priority is trying to get NWM back to SA and that will cost them big dollars.

Adelaide would be pretty silly to offer $900k+ for a guy recovering from a ruptured Achilles, who has only played 1 full season in his career.

I think the boat has sailed on us getting a 1st round compo for Draper.

F*** this if we offered 700k per year to GRESHAM and then go and lose Draper to a better offer.

We are already the most vanilla team in the comp. Imagine if we lost Drapes.

They were pretty exciting last week. The gameplan change is what makes us exciting.

….and playing the kids!

Yep, we were easy on the eye last week. The week before (Richmond) was almost unwatchable. It’s hard watching us butcher the fundamentals of the game whilst crabbing it, even when we win. For this year at least, I’d rather us lose like that than win like we did against Richmond.

If the reports around us not offering Draper a huge deal are true, it’s a step in the right direction from the list management team.

We have Vigo and Bryan, losing Draper wouldn’t be the end of the world if we got decent compo. An Achilles injury for someone who relies on athleticism is also a concern.

And then other reports say we’re offering Harley around $1.7m. Who knows where the truth lies.

This has post Geelong thumping members first message on a Wednesday morning announcement vibes all over it.

Members First: Draper inks new deal making him a Don for life.

Then a link to some bombershop promo based on this news.

If only the contract management team in place had a clue and ensured that Draper was in the top 25% for the final year of his deal so we would have the right to match a bid. Even if we don’t want to actually match, the fact we could would force a better deal to be offered

Yep, if it’s true that we arent offering him the world, I’m very happy. Means we might actually be learning from our mistakes

A long term deal on big money for a guy who just ruptured his achilles would be up there as one of the worst list management decision we have made in the past decade

Given our injury list we could easily not win another game for the year and finish with pick 4, 5 and say 9 for from the dees.

4 & 9 to wc for Reid. Take 5 to the draft and use other picks as points for nga players.

Or keep draper, do the Reid deal and not have a first round pick.

I could live with either outcome.

Imagine a forward line featuring caddy, Reid, Durham, kako and huss next season…

I agree with others that we have very low prospects of first round compo post achilles - which is frustrating as Sammy should command more than freaking Josh Battle.

The question then is why are we enabling another team to do a proper rebuild?

If we had 3 first and two second round picks this year shouldn’t we do a proper rebuild?

Yes, absolutely but I suspect plenty on here and at the club think that we are close and only a Reid plus another away from competing

No, in that scenario, it is getting pick 26 for Draper. Picks 7 and 10 would be there without any Draper compensation.
Pick 26 for Draper is terrible. Pick 26’s are a 30% chance of being a decent average player. A ruckman who can do what Draper can do is very valuable.
