#2 Big Sammy Draper (from May 2024)

looked very good before going down but previous to that could not play four quarters of good football. Capable of freakish acts but does it fully balance out the absolute brain farts he is capable of. Diving on that ball in Adelaide for example should have cost us the game. His woeful attempt at nullifying the contest in the final minute of the game against Gold Coast arguably did cost us that game. I do like Draper but he isn’t an untouchable, in that category I’d only put Merrett, Caldwell, Durham, Roberts, Martin, Caddy, Vigo maybe Duursma and this years draft crop. if Draper leaving helped to secure Reid then I wouldn’t be opposed. If it was to Adelaide and the offer secured Band 1 we could take O’Brien to support Nick while Vigo hones his craft. I have loved what I’m seeing with Vigo, I reckon he is going to be special.

Scott’s presser today:
“It’s incumbent on players who are free agents to assess their options…”

Sounds like he’s gone to me

What a weird word to be censored.

Typo. I misspelt assess as the plural of ass

Not really. It’s the reality of the world we live in now. He’s probably got more time to think about it as well given he’s not able to play at the moment. Those comments from Scott don’t lend me to believe he’s out the door definitively.

Scott certainly wasn’t pumping him up like he does every week about Goldy! One is heading towards 40, the other heading towards his prime…go figure!

He’s right tho it’s up to Draper if he wants to stay.

If he does it’s because he sees his future with us we shouldn’t be pushing him or hurrying to make a decsion.

At least he plays Sam when he’s available.

Caught up with an ex player tonight that is social with current players including Sammy. Said he’s going nowhere.

Not at all. Scott said the same thing about Parish / Redman / Merrett (or those during his tenure). It’s his stock standard line regarding free agents.

The way it should be imo. we want players to make a decision on staying because they want to.

He’s fairly ingrained in the make up of the club, would be a tough decision for him to work through.

Not having a go at you but we’ve known this for ages and people just panicking at agents trying to extract the maximum lol

Well after Joey I’ve never been certain anyone is going to stay.

Well michael hibberd’s old man commented on FB that he was staying with us only to leave and head to melbourne. Guess time will tell.

Much like this club.

I think they will want one to be next years first especially if they already have 2 firsts this year (theirs + Hawks) plus potential Oscar Allen compo.

Best solution might be to send players to eagles in addition to picks to help them be more competitive now. They are still gonna be near the bottom, but maybe less thrashings.

I don’t think Sammy’s gone.

But in saying that it’s a long way from him staying.

He has a deal. It’s not public or it seems rumoured he’s asked for a better deal from the club(or the dons have said the offer is final)

If he buys in and signs on I suspect Bryan is gone anyway.

It’s the way things are I guess.

I think Draper if given it would mature into an outstanding captain. Max Gawn like.

Nothing wrong with a leader who likes to have a bit of fun.

Bryan and Draper going nowhere.

Dark stormy night Blitz fest.
