#2 Big Sammy Draper (from May 2024)

That’s fine and that’s your opinion I am of the opinion that regardless you never overspend on a ruck let alone a injury plagued one and when an opportunity comes along to get a extra first round pick you take it

Yeah I agree. But I think they see Drapes as being more damaging.

I’d love Luke Jackson on our list and would have no qualms him being in the top 25% of the playing group pay wise.

It’s about being mobile and therefore versatile for sure.

Even allowing for future development, Draper is a much better player than Bryan. If you have to lose one then its a no brainer to be Bryan.

I base this on nothing apart from revised offer plus general vibes, and I’ve said I’d take end of first round compo for him…

But I reckon he is going to stay.

Id be pumped if he stays and hope he does. But if he does, we need to move on Bryan.

Draper into Vigo works well from a succession planning perspective.

I dont know when you last looked a the state of our list, but we wont be ready for 5 years either. Vigo fits right in. And prefering Draper over Bryan because the latter is injury prone, really?

I like that we have upped the money and put the ball back into Brisbane and Adelaide’s court. If we’re going to lose him a top 10 pick (chosen by Rosa) is much better than an end of first round one.

Yeah we know how to play games now at Essendon. Seriously we are a well run club nowadays.

We have a competent person in charge of list management now

I want us to retain our good consistent players

Draper isn’t one of them

The club shouldn’t budge from their offer. I hope he stays. I think hes a formidable ruckman, and a surprisingly good forward, but weve had enough of overpaying players. It seems to breed mediocrity and complacency. If he loves the club enough and beleives in the direction, he will stay. Hes not gonna go broke if he sticks around.

I really hope it’s not Draper and/or his manager who’s leaking injury frustrations to the media. Destabilising the club and risk incoming trade targets would be a pretty sad way to leave.

You mean again? Because we upped once but I assume they would be factoring in increased offers hopefully triggering first round compo

Keep upping til he leaves for 1st round compensation straight after our first pick.

I think we upped enough where it will trigger band 1 It’s now up Draper if he wants to stay or go.

We win ethier way the club is playing it smart imo.

We get a couple of promising kids in the draft, and supporters start thinking thats good enough to build a Premiership.

Most people have NFI, and don’t realise we’re actually competing against 17 other teams who are better run and have better players than us.

Yep, all Essendon people including and especially the power brokers that insisted we were in the window whilst they wasted picks on Ss and good kids from KPMG/Deloitte families…

Yeah im not sure. i just hope they stick to their guns and dont give him everything he wants out of fear of losing him. its happened far too often. Besides Merrett, these long term contracts have been awful for the club.
