#2 Big Sammy Draper (from May 2024)

Hey Brad - people will make mistakes and as a leader, as a coach and as a parent, the responsibility is to have people learn from those mistakes. And they will make mistakes at different stages, and we’ve got to lead by example.

In Draper’s case, my view is one of support.

I’ll preface this by saying i dont give 2 fks about what draper said, but whether you agree or not with his comments, you’d have to be a idiot to not know it’ll cause controversy and thats where the problem lies. This is the issue with draper, he doesn’t think and lacks any professionalism. We cant say “oh but the media say it” because we fkg hate the media and their bin juice reporting

Again, i dont care that draper said what he said, the dogs can fk right off for all i care. But you just have to know these days, something like that is going to get scrutinised

Yep that’s fair. But scott sitting in his ire for several days then dropping it post game when he’s had ample opportunities to admonish draper publicly has a stench to it.

This.

He was asked a question. Well two actually.

Exactly this. They asked, he responded honeslty.
Seriously, Draper is a moron for saying it.

Imagine hearing some nuffy from another club having a whack at us like that. Stop being so damn sensitive you dunce’s and just be happy we have a coach trying to put some ■■■■■■■ pride, respect and discipline back into this club.

Oh but but he supported TT. Cry more. You can throw support around someone who you’ve known since a kid, while also taking a stance against their actions.

And in the span of a week he’s miss stepped at least twice. Professional head coach and former AFL operator.

Disagree, Draps needed a whack, been drinking his own bathwater.

I think his TT and Draper response mismatch is due to an empathy gap.

We all have blind spots.

Brad Scott’s is finding more empathy in a head coaches position than the victims of TT.

He even tried to get on the front foot to address it in the presser but you can’t help but feel that was in response to the heat he created for himself this week.

He is on the right track with our club, which is great…but….he is still a Scott brother after all.

I thought there was like an unofficial code of conduct in how AFL players talk about other clubs and players until the saga happened. Some of the stuff said to Essendon players and club officials was nothing short of brutal so now I couldn’t care less what we say.

Fair, but I reckon just because we copped it, doesn’t mean it’s an eye for an eye. This club needs to keep a lid on it, keep working and prove itself. Need to be above this kind of rubbish if we want to get serious.
Club doesn’t need any antics off field.

I’m backing Sam to learn from it, as much as Scott chastised him, he also stated he brings a great energy to the club. He needs to let his game do the talking for the rest of the season does Sammy.

Respect grows from what you do; not what you say.

10/10 backflippery

I thought Brad comments were poor and unnecessary. The comments re Bevo and players leaving are also very much a question of fact so the prove will be in the pudding at the end of the year for WB players. Even if Draper comments were unhelpful, it didn’t deserve that public whack.

Scott’s comments were too harsh. Draper’s comments—speculation—are commonly held opinions in the media. Draper is perfectly entitled to make comments of that nature and cultivate a media personality, so long as he doesn’t violate the need to protect sensitive club information to the detriment of the club’s performance. Of course, the club—and its coach—would prefer he didn’t to mitigate against negative publicity, but the fans don’t have to agree, and neither should Draper. This is club overreach. Players are inevitably going to have bigger media roles with the opportunity provided by podcasts, social media. etc. And good on Draper for trying to get ahead of the curve. He should tell Scott to focus on football, because the irony is that by publicly humiliating Draper for off-field comments in off-field comments, Scott did exactly the same thing.

My biggest gripe with what Scott said was about losing respect, the only thing that gets respect is premiership’s.
