#2 Big Sammy Draper (from May 2024)

Wasn’t that bad as a footballer last night. Took a few decent grabs and did so in the wet. Credit where it’s due. But as a ruckman? Yikes.

I wish he knew how to tap. If he did, he’d be adequate. Goldy can tap but offers little around the ground because he’s 200.

Help me, Nick Bryan. You’re our only hope.

He definitely saw Petty off very quickly.

JVR’s physicality was more of a contest

3 times he took the ball out of the ruck, couldnt hit the ball on the base like a normal gootballer, boomeranged it 35 metres, dorect to an opponent.

His tap work is non existent

Cant kick when not even under pressure

Handpassess to the wrong spot every game

Decent contested mark though

He is useless and those parts of his game will never ever improve. Move him on

Yeah nah. I thought he was alright last night, ran hard all night and gave it his all. Blame the midfielders for not getting in better positions.

Buckley is definitely right about rucks, they are overrated in the modern game. Unless you are a top tier ruck the like Tim English and Gawny. They match up against bean poles who cant kick or run

Wasn’t our worst last night and far from our biggest problem but I do get annoyed with him at times and frustrated that he hasn’t come on as I had hoped.
The best ruckman in the comp though wouldnt have made a difference last night though when he have a team with a soft underbelly who shirk contests.

I was actually a little worried when Melbourne decided not to go with a ruckman. Not exactly Sammy’s one wood to think through a different set up and use a bit of guile.

His marking is the only good thing about his game. I’ll give him unpredictability too

His actual ruck craft & skills, i cant think of anyone who’s worse in the league. Its deplorable

He’s a gigantic, marketing meme that we hoped would turn into a elite ruckman. He never will. He’s not talented enough. His footy IQ is shocking

He can mark.

When it comes to ruck tradescraft he is on par with Tsatas kicking action.

Taps to the opposition. Handballs to the opposition. Kicks it without much thought. Do we actually have a coach for him?

Throw a brick and you’ll hit an Essendon player who did that last night.
Wasn’t actually the conditions for perfect disposal.

Wasn’t exactly the conditions for perfect palm down taps either, and it’s kind of crazy to me that that seems to be the expectation.

Guy smashes the ball forward from the centre bounce and it’s his fault that our mids are caught behind?

Okay.

He was more than decent. Showed more effort than most, and was soooooo not the problem.

Dude, you do Not have to reply to my every post in here.
Or anywhere.

You wonder why I call you a stalker.

I don’t know why people go to the lengths they do to defend him.

He’s useless.

I would very much hope damn so.

Still developing this guy

lol

Gotta wait
To he gets to 100 games

Lol

His lack of football nous gets shown up week in week out

Doesn’t do the basics of what a ruck men should do

He just has NFI what he is doing. It’s clear as day.

At the very least he should be bashing and crashing people

Agree. He wasn’t remotely close to being an issue for us last night. There’s at least 8-10 others on that list long before him.

Yup which he refuses to do. He just stands around the contests half the time as a passive onlooker. If there isn’t an opportunity to do the incredible, he simply doesn’t try.

A front running ruckman. How many of those are there?

I think his ability to continue to play the game without regard of team first things is a massive indictment on brad, he simply does not learn any footy smarts, selfishly tries to mercurial when the basics would be nice.

I’m no fan of the guy but that’s farking harsh.

Said that in the game day thread, in a wet game he should have been using the body to move people instead stood around like a stale bottle of you know what
