#2 Big Sammy Draper (from May 2024)

Was in our best 3 for mine. It’s almost the law of averages that he misses those 2 in the last because he was great with his goals early in the game. He’s getting better with it but still room for improvement.

He played well as a whole.
But those last 2 moments show again how he is such a dumb footballer. He just needed to halve it, either of them ffs.

is that an indication that he’s dumb? or just that he failed to execute when it counted?

obviously it’s the latter as it is with a frightening number of our list.

Yes. It is an indication that he is dumb. Cos he was not aware of what the situation needed.

he really invites ridicule on himself.

Can’t have a guy who can’t kick as your number one forward target.

Look, he’s not the smartest footballer out there, but him missing those shots isn’t that he’s dumb, but he’s still an unreliable kick. Him being dumb would’ve been giving away stupid, unnecessary frees, or making boneheaded, low percentage plays when we needed him to take the smart option. He didn’t do that. He failed to convert gettable chances. That’s an execution problem.

The last contest before the kick back into to Mac Andrews he didn’t kill the contest. That was one of the only really bad things he did tonight. He couldn’t slot a couple of goals but our forwards missed 7 as well.

The whole team failed mentally. Disappointing.

Ask yourself why is Draper out there by himself? That kick was not to Drapers advantage.

I wasn’t talking about his shots on goals. I was talking about him meekly losing 2 contests in a row at the death that only needed to be halved. And him not having the awareness to do that.

Celebrates like he’s a hero with a few early goals. But finishes with two terrible missed goals in the last quarter and loses both one on one contests in the last minute that cost the game.

He was gassed and he got two crap ground balls to deal with.
He’s a ruckman.

Yeah, that’s when they shine.
Sprinting to the ground ball in the last two minutes of a game.

He didn’t sprint hard enough for you jerks on the couch? Really?
Let’s not look at the disposal or choices out of the backline….lets pile on the ruckman not getting to the ball that was never going to get to him.

lol. But as I said last week, we lose and he’s in the cannon.

You predictable, laughable sods.

Let him go and be Adelaide’s problem.

When the game was on the line, when we needed him most, his goal kicking wilted.

Just like Anzac day last year in the last few minutes when he had the shot to put us back in front, just like the Adelaide game a few weeks ago.

We need players up forward who can execute under pressure, we dont have that in him, or Langford, or Stringer…

He is not a forward, he is a ruckman. Thats purely the fact that we have no depth, he did what he could. We all know Draper can’t kick the footy, it was always going to happen, fair aswell ruckman aren’t known for playing full forward and slotting 5-6 goals

Ground ball?
He was wrestling for position on both balls that came his way.
One was a straight mark that he got pushed out of the way of and the other took a bounce 10 metres in front of them and again was controlled in the air by Collins while Draper did absolutely nothing to slow him down.

Was good early but absolutely shat the bed in the last quarter and you cannot defend that, no matter how much you like him.

Wow. Just wow.

He had a great game, but for those last 2 moments, which were indefenceable, yet here you are defending them. And with comments that are factually incorrect. You predictable laughable sod.

The first was not a ground ball, it was a marking contest. He did not need to sprint hard for it, he was right there. But instead of trying to spoil, or body his opponent, he let his opponent mark it basically uncontested while he hoped the ball got past Collins so he could mark it.

All he needed to do was outbody his smaller opponent.

The second was a ground ball, which he didn’t need to sprint hard for, he was standing next to his ■■■■■■■ opponent.

All he needed to do was get body work on his smaller opponent. That’s it.

He’s worked on a lot of things in his game, but he really has poor situational awareness, which hasn’t seemed to improve with experience.

Merrett missed an easy goal too.

While the two missed shots from him in the last were typically frustrating, he didn’t kick all 9 points in the last.

Probably the best game he’s played inside 50, and on a pretty damn good opponent.
