#2 Big Sammy Draper (from May 2024)

Sam was on the list for 3 years before he even played a game…

Gawn played in his second year.

Wot?

Draper (17-21) = 21 games
Gawn (10-14) = 26 games

Draper was taken in the 2017 Rookie draft, which is actually the rookie draft straight after 2016 draft (McGrath’s draft). Sam was at the club in 2017.

When did Gawn start playing footy and when did Sam start playing footy?
Junior footy, as in from what young tender age did Maxy start compared to Draper?

woweee
BOY.
OH.
BOY.

Why are we even comparing Draper to Gawn?

Are we saying Draper and Gawn played a similar amount of games by the end of their 5th years?

Draper will never be the ruckman that Gawn is and has been. What are we all smoking here?

Why does this matter?

Do we think that if Sam started say 5 years later than Gawn that in 5 years time that Draper will hit Gawn heights?

the specific poster you’re referencing after stalking and harrassing other posters into dumb decisions is just now fishing for new game.

your best bet is to just put said poster on ignore and enjoy living in actual reality cos it’s definitely easier when you don’t have to deal with crack pots on here.

the goal posts keep moving on this discussion, why even bring up gawn? like slapps mentioned he grew up in the footy environment.

Well one would think a guy who played junior football from say under 12s would be have a bigger footy iq than a bloke who decided to play football for the first time in his life, say 2015/16 and then getting immediately drafted in 2017….

Because I reckon for a guy that picked up the game as 17/18 yr old has done a bloody fantastic job to be playing AFL

FWIW I agree that drapes will never be as good as gawn

To counter-point however, in an early interview (maybe even as he was drafted) he said he played his soccer the same way and loved the physicality. so im guessing sporting IQ wasn’t the 1 wood.

Yep agree with that

if draper was 6’1 do you think he’d even be on an afl list ?

Tom campbell has just landed at his what 4th club cos why, cos he’s tall.

If draper was on any other list, half this joint would be laughing their ass off how highly rated he is at that club.

Couldn’t give a ■■■■ how far back he’s coming from, he’s still barely a vfl ruckman and we have him as our number 1 ruck. it actually shows how stuffed the club is that they rate this guy as the starting ruck.
when you have to go out and recruit a 36 yr old cos you know a 26 yr old can’t ruck a full season, it really should show how low he’s actually rated in the comp

I love the guy. I was pretty happy that he got through the season. I expect a very big 2025 from Sam.

If he wasn’t 203cm he wouldn’t be on the list

Just saying I reckon he has done a bloody fantastic job to be on the list and playing AFL

And he much better than VFL standard, but hey we are all entitled to think what we want aren’t we

Spot on in every sense, the guy isnt going to get any better than what he is right now which is why we should capitalise on any interest he does have if it’s this year so be it if not let him go to free agency.

I’d suggest he could be in for a big 2025 after indicating he’s now fully over his injury issue and feeling primed for footy.

you essentially admit by default he’s on a list cos he’s tall and you then deem it a bloody fantastic job.

you’re definitely right, people are allowed to think whatever you like. and some people are happy with participation awards and congratulatiing people for being tall i guess.
