Just curious where you’ve heard that?
Everything I’ve seen said restricted, though I admit I don’t really have a clue either way.
If he’s unrestricted due to not being a top 25% earner, then they don’t need to trade. Can take without a match.
When did he get rid of the mullett?
Sammy’s forward work is getting better every game he plays, to the point where he will legitimately keep 2MP out of the team. Competes harder in the air and ground level. It allows him and Bryan to co-exist in the same 22/23. Edwards emerging gives us a mix of mid-sized mobile forwards, add Kako in there and Drapes as the big. I think that’s what we will roll with.
I think people are jumping the gun with Edward’s. He has played one good half in a practice game, but the rest of your post I agree with. We have plenty of players that we could trial in that mid sized forward role so the rest of your post makes sense. Edward’s just needs a few more runs on the boards. Even in our intraclub he hasn’t done much
Maybe he was saving himself for the big stage of…(checks details of ground)…Mission Whitten Oval.
lol. I thought we delisted that bloke. Hasn’t he moved back to Tassie?
The knee to the back of ol’ mates head was really lovely:
I love Draper and thought he played quite well yesterday but he needs to give the handball off far more often than he does.
The long mongrel punt inside 50 never pays off.
He just needs to hoof it to the boundary and not the corridor. Never gets called deliberate when going forward and gets us a front half stoppage.
We’re in a great position with Sammy this year as an RFA. We get to look at how the draft crop is panning out as the season progresses and then
If we are going ok mid season - eg look like top 10 rather than bottom 8, then we probably look to match any offers and keep him.
If we are going really poorly then we probably don’t mind if he heads to Adelaide and we get another top pick.
Spot on! I waa really hoping this year he matures as a player and looks to give it off to someone in clear rather than, as he often does, bang it long to a 50-50 at best. Maybe conditions yesterday warranted going for mileage but for his game to truly go next level, needs to be smarter when has possession. Looks fit and keen so fingers crossed
Except one of Edwards goals was from a long bomb to the goal square.
It works when it’s to a one on one and kicked to advantage.
I think he is going to eat the competition alive this year (if his body hangs together).
Breakout season coming…
Absolutely agree. Last two training sessions I’ve seen he was a standout. He’s trimmed down and looks super fit. If he can find some consistency and eliminate some of the odd brain fades he could become elite. He’s certainly surprised me,
Will also be more effective with smalls that can crumb and pressure when the ball his the ground
As was said on the don the stat podcast after the game (to an extent) - Sammy attracts a crowd when playing up forward by his lack of leading patterns.
Like 2MP he tends to just stand at the top of the square wanting it kicked on his head and then a crowd forms making it tough for an inside 50 grab by any of our blokes.
Unless Edwards is on the end of it…
Finally watching the replay now - within the first 5 minutes of the last quarter Draper had a huge impact, almost kicked a 60m on the run from the ruck, kicked a goal after that off a free kick from the ruck, and then he gathered the ball off the ground in the middle and hoofed a 65m bomb from the wing to Edwards. Sheesh…
