while i’m inclined to agree, teams do seem to be prepared to game the system to ensure band 1
i think it would be a mistake for the crows to go after him though fwiw. O’brien is a perfectly serviceable ruckmen and tilthorpe is a much better fwd ruck than draper.
port have brought in ruckmen the last two years and soldo destroyed draper last year.
i’m not sure i see a really good argument for any potential draper suiter to go after him that hard .

The band which is salary and years based will rise and he won’t get the offers that reach that band.
The reason why North got that band was because of perfect timing when the salary cap was stagnant since covid and a new salary cap had just begun. But players salaries hadn’t changed, so North benefited from it. And I’m sure the AFL allowed them to get ‘close’ to the band so they didn’t have to give them further draft help.
Since then, there have been multiple larger signings which means that the band will be a higher bar to reach.
If he receives an offer and he wants to go, we take whatever it gives us. Otherwise we lowball him.
Then send him somewhere else.
