#2 Big Sammy Draper (from May 2024)

He’s going at two goals a game and providing ruck relief. Pretty solid numbers. Three goals a game is Coleman medal territory.

I reckon he’s just about the most scary bloke to stand in front of in a marking contest. There would be some seriously sore PA players tonight after some of those contests.

I know a lot of people are keen to move him on, but unless we’re getting a top 5 draft pick in return we need to keep him. His big personality is so important in a team that can withdraw quickly when things aren’t going well.

Yeah ask Kane Farell what he thinks of draper at full forward.

Bloody Sam Draper and his attention seeking ways…

I might be a miserable prick but I want and need him to do more around the ground

…42? :open_mouth:

Are you saying…he’s the answer?

We would be bottom of the ladder fodder without this guy.

Genuinely the only forward who’s gonna scare the oppo this year until Caddy gets more size.

Least he looks to contest everything. Does everything you want Peter Wright to do.

Name some. If you can’t do that, name one!

Draper has improved greatly and as others have said is a heart and soul player. You don’t just get rid of them. He is also developing into a dangerous forward, even though it is a new role for him.

What do you mean, might be? - Signed Joe King of Highett.

Well yeah I am, but six touches around the ground and only one in the defensive half isn’t enough if he starts to win marks around the ground and help out stoppages it goes a long way

Draper goal scoring games streak: 9

That’s exactly it.
He’s so mobile when it suits him offensively. But there’s times he really looks to be half-assing it to pressure or crash someone.

You just look at Nank and think why cant our lump do that? He’s way more mobile than Toby

Without Draper we have two teens and a mature age SSP selection running our forward line.

Against men.

He’s essential.

If he leaves at the end of the year we will be in big strife

Gives mumford vibes with how he throws his body into people sometimes, loved how he sent the backs of a few port defenders into orbit.

As others have pointed out, definitely seems more nimble during offensive play and don’t see him back much which would be a big step up in his game. His work forward is a big progression this year though and is really going to help Caddy out if it keeps this up and draws defenders.

He played well, as he has in all our games this year. Bizare how people get into him so much. He is bloody perfect foil for Caddy btw much better than 2MSleeper, takes two defenders, smashes anyone that gets in his way alllows more space for the lead.

And when he goes on ball (he’s natural position) he really has an impact. I know everyone wants to farm him off for a first round pick, but let’s enjoy it when he plays well.

I think they are just jealous ex footballers who aren’t 2 metres plus and built like a brick shithouse.

Wishing they could play league footy and be paid the big bucks and be just as shaky a kick of the footy.

Drapes is a gun. Love what he brings.

Not every ruckman is going to be Maxxy Gawn. That guys legit a legit goat

We need to nail down the question.

Keep kicking around the corner Sam! When you consider how bad his kicking has been, you’d take 60% accuracy any day. He’s flushing them, who give a rats about how it looks.

Not sure if this has been mentioned our not. But wasn’t Draper a goal keeper when he played soccer?

.
And soccer goal keepers tend to kick around their body. Might have something to do with his feeling confident with this new kicking action.

He clearly is working on this method and as ungainly as it looks it’s producing results. Can’t complain about him whatsoever. IMO he’s maturing as a player, which is great to see!
