#2 - Jacob Farrow ⭐

Tough question to answer, there’s a bit to it.

The way I see the game going, I think Farrow’s skill set might be more aligned. I think you need two or three elite kicks of the footy in your back 6. You need to be able to consistently hit those dangerous kicks into the corridor, or play keepings off tempo footy… or the option to blast the ball long to bypass defensive structures.

On the other hand, I really liked the idea of adding that defender that’s hyper competitive and mad as a cut snake like Taylor. I think he would have helped the culture change that we need at the club.

So yeah - probably just shading Taylor slightly, but very happy with Farrow, and I think the culture is changing anyway. Sharp will play a big role in the coming years.

He reminds me of Maynard

We can delist the son of conviction and Farrow can play in his place in R1.

He looks a good few CMs taller that Sharp and Robey. I’ve seen Robey listed as 192cm.

Yeah Farrow gives me great vibes. Real intensity about him. Definetly a defender mindset.

So Hepp is 189cm - time to get the tape measure out. Farrow looks a couple of cms taller at least.

Not trying to knock him.

Can someone explain to me what I’m missing? Just watched the highlights.

Moves pretty well, quicker than average, which is good.

Decent long left foot, which is good.

Nice size.

But a whole heap of kick ins, handball receives and long kicks to contests. Certainly not kicking the eyes out of it.

What’s the actual appeal/upside?

I’m going off 7 mins of highlights but interested to see what we’re looking at/why he went so high. Kind of reminds me of Zak Johnson’s U18 highlights except not as sharp a kick but taller, a bit gutsier and a lot stockier.

I’d say so, especially given how many woodys this pick has given blitz

Was he measured at the combine?

He is at least 6’3 but looked comfortably taller than Robey so maybe 6’4 and bit.

Either way he has grown a couple inches this year.

I just watched a fair bit of it, was instrumental in getting his team back on top in the first match vid, and plenty of mongrel, fend offs, shirking multiple tackles to deliver to teammates and just keep possession, which is a crucial power/will thing we need more of. Seems composed at all times and always looking to improve the odds for his team. I like him. Defender to mid with a big accurate left foot. Upgrade on Redman without the years of slow development, and hopefully without the years of rapid decline.

Class. Rd1 debut please.

Buzzing to see Jacob Farrow has been drafted by Essendon.

Very happy to see an English lad in Red and black he is a hard worker and I am confident he will deliver for us regardless where the dons finish next year. The club has made a great decision

So yes actually taller than Xav Taylor then. Farrow does remind me of Ridley a bit. Both smooth movers and very composed.

Taylor was always going to struggle with height in the content as a defender, so perhaps Farrow is the more astute choice.

And if that happens, we start trying to shake out CDT or Duursma to come back the other way.

Agree, 100%.

Nigel Lappin vibes for me

Sharp can be Voss

Agree, that was a likely proposition. As a few have mentioned the drafting of Farrow when he was taken reads like a strategic pick. Farrow hasn’t had the same level of exposure on this coast as he had in the west, but Rosa has a better knowledge of WA players and more/better scouts there than other teams so his selection of Farrow is based on sounder knowledge. l look forward to him combining with Roberts, Reid and Ridley in the near future.
