2015 Fixture

2006 - played the premiers (Syd)

2007 - interstate (Adel)

2008 - North (who finished 8 spots higher the season prior)

2009 - interstate (Port)

2010 - played the premiers (Gee)

2011 - Dogs (who finished 10 spots higher the season prior)

2012 - North (who finished 1 spot lower the season prior)

2013 - interstate (Adel)

2014 - North (who finished 1 spot lower the season prior)

2015 - interstate (runners up - Syd)

Notice anything?

BTW, in that same period, the number of times Collingwood have played interstate in R1 is ZERO. (finally they go interstate in 2015)

Let me guess, we'll play Hawthorn in R2 and then onto Perth in R3....

The article accompanying the fixture release by the AFL's PR brigade is pure tripe.

Says that it remains to be seen what kind of side Essendon will field because of ASADA. At this stage I would have thought we'd field our best blood side. Perhaps @afl_hashbrowne needs to be reminded no players have been charged with anything.
He also says Fremantle V Port is the "marquee match" of the round. What an idiot. The season opener is the marquee, with Hawthorn V Geelong and our game streaks ahead of those two horseshit mobs battling in the sun.

The rest of the games are ■■■■■ as well, boring round 1.

From AFL app:
Thursday
Carlton v Richmond
Saturday
Melbourne v Gold Coast
Sydney Swans v Essendon
Brisbane Lions v Collingwood
Western Bulldogs v West Coast
Sunday
St Kilda v Greater Western Sydney
Adelaide v North Melbourne
Fremantle v Port Adelaide
Monday
Hawthorn v Geelong

Wow, sooooo many deeply unattractive games there.
AFL article confirms afternoon game, at the SCG.

Bring it on.   We will have the midfield to match it with Sydney.   We will have the forward line to match it with Sydney.

It should be much closer than in the past,  and the 2 matches in 2014 were not blow outs at all.

can't even have 2 brownlow medalists play their first game in melbourne, ■■■■■■■ weak afl.

Hawks Rnd 2. Tough start to the season!

If we can get 1 win out of the first two, id be stoked

2 wins, belt those bird losers in afl's pocket. see ya in the lid off thread lads.

Yeah, but so are the two other options up there.

At least this makes it very easy to do a hit-(boo-goodes)-and-run visit.

I might book some flights. Never been to sydney

You're not missing anything, the most enjoyable aspect is the flight out of there.

Favorite place to see in the rear view.

Kidding right?
The city centre is far better than it was fifteen years ago.
Heck even public transport is far better (I think they are down to 8 minute wait for each train on a given line).
It also has 1of the top five most recognised and iconic buildings in the world.
I appreciate Sydney more now than I did twenty years ago.

Eugh. Would have preferred long weekend anywhere but sydney…

But hey I’ll be there

went was the last time we played a home game in round 1? ffs

Favorite place to see in the rear view.

my old (Carlscum-supporting) boss once compared Sydney to a woman that looks good from a distance, but once you get up close she's really ugly.

I like visiting there, but am always pleased to leave again!

Needs to be pointed out (I'm just being pedantic), Adelaide (07 and 13), North (08) and the Dogs (11) all finished top 4 the previous season

ANZ Stadium Shitehole x 100, we stayed at one of the units there, overpriced accommodation, food and beer, two trains through the slums to get there. And then the stadium........................never again for me!!!!!

Why can’t we play GWS six times??

FREAKING JOKE the AFL is.
