Last call for position polls for players, right now I only have a few.
On Westhoff I disagree with your opinion wholeheartedly on him, but that’s just my opinion only and just like you said you can’t refute all my back claims, I can’t refute that he did spend time on the wings. In fairness he basically roams wherever he pleases.
I question starting in a position for a bounce translates to actually spending legitimate time in a position for a length of time, because a lot of games where you are stating stats doesn’t fit the whole story and I feel it sways people to thinking he fits a certain position. I see him as a forward and a high half back that floats back to plug holes and play as a loose man. A lot of the time saying “he had 18 appearances from 35” for a centre bounce fails completely to take into account time spent down back or strategies used to get loose men across the ground. He might be on the wings for a centre bounce and then play his usual mopping up loose man game down back which is what I saw often throughout the year. A lot of times a player will start somewhere and end up down back or running forward. I think whilst those stats can be helpful they can often be misleading or not tell the full story. If we’re using sites to back claims then I’d put up from the Sen player analysis “Ended in defence” (Round 1), The swingman did as he pleased across halfback (Round 2), taking uncontested marks in defence (Round 5), “Roamed around defence and cut off plenty of Lions attacking thrusts” (Round 6), “Liking his game now that he is settled as a wingman/high halfback” (Round 7), “Rotated ruck/forward and pushed back into defence to be a factor” (Round 11) etc. But that’s just my opinion, I think both our minds are already set on what we want/think they should be so happy to just put it up for vote.
