2019 Draft Watch - it’s over, apart from all the remaining bits

Would anybody consider trading our 2020 first to get into this draft higher?

How did that Richmond key forward go this year in the VFL Townsend?

I don’t think we need another 3rd tall defender on our list.

Maybe. But if a player we rate as an elite talent slips through to our first pick I think we should take them regardless of what position they play.

ok so now what are we looking like 2 ND picks and 3 rookie picks?

On Cutler, Phillips, Draper
Off Baguley, Myers, Houlahan, Long

Rookie
Off Draper, Jok, Mynott, Dea, Z Clarke
On McQuillam, Snelling?
3 spots available

Cat B
Off Lavender, McNeice
On McBride
2 spots available

I reckon regardless of who we end up taking Adrian will be saying “We rated him in the top 10 and we are surprised that he was available at our pick”

Unless any more delistings come it looks like we’ll 30, 33 plus 2x CatA spots to fill.

I’m hoping for 2 of Bowman, Riccardi, Andrews and Sokol as rookies. With Pickett and Stephens with our 1st two.

I will ■■■■■■■ spew up if we draft Hugo Ralphsmith.

You forgetting Snelling on rookie I think

2 ND and 2 rookie availability (I’d expect one rookie taken and one left for the ESD/MSD)

We would then go with 40/4 setup

Can I ask why Philp is not considered a late first rounder? Good size, speed, aggression, genuine on baller with decent kicking skills. Sounds like he’s perfect for us. What is the reality that causes him to be a second to third rounder? Why did he not make the Metro team?

I was suprised he didn’t make the metro squad as his first few games for the year where very good and certainly better than some others who got a game bit think Metro went in over confident with their team in general.

His kicking isn’t great when running at speed, not so bad in general play but could definitely use some tidying up, guess he is also in that in-between height at 186cm because if he was say 190cm I’d say he is a lock for top 20, personally think he has more tricks than Cooper Stephens and certainly more explosive from a stoppage.

Think he has gone under the radar mostly because he plays for knights and not Sandringham, Gippsland or Oakliegh.

Thanks for that. Fingers crossed Dodoro likes him.

Lloyd loves him, he has got down the rankings below our picks now so you could be safe. probably not the type we are looking for anyway.

Not only that but if history is any guide, he will pick a player that has not been discussed much at all in this thread.

Yep I remember when Morgan’s name got called out the blitz be like WTF

Morgan went a little higher than first thought but he was rated by a few clubs and I believe wouldn’t have lasted late in the draft. Zerk was the last one that caught a few by suprise but looks like a solid pickup that late in the Piece.

Not sure what your source is about Morgan- which other clubs were interested?

Atleast 5 where interested including us, he wouldn’t have gotten a national combine invite otherwise.

Well, Norf were presumably one, given they poached him off us a couple of years after we drafted him.

You have to wonder if his combine sprint result swayed us. However, when you see him actually play he didn’t look anywhere near as quick.

I also would have some skepticism about the 20m sprint times, there has to be some kind of error rate and thus some times would have to be questioned.
