I think early last season, there was uncertainty about our structure and game plan. Players were more worried about making mistakes, not completely knowing where to stand with defensive set ups, players unsure where to lead… which led to many player not committing themselves 100% because they were unsure and didn’t want to make a mistake.

It looked like the players challenged themselves in the second half to commit 100% and don’t get too stressed if they make a mistake regarding our game plan structures. All the focus became about individual effort.

I just hope we don’t fall down this rabbit hole again. Although it looks like it’s going that way.

Hopefully we can bring together the effort and the game plan structures from the very beginning of the season.

With respect, what you’ve described, set ups, structures, team and individual tactics and the ability/confidence/fitness to execute those tactics often enough to beat the opposition… that’s basically the whole game.

If players are worried about executing and making mistakes in JLT18, for eight games in a row in the H&A, again in JLT 19, then again in the H&A, you start questioning the coaching and / or the mental strength of some of your personnel…and their ability to become elite enough at the mental side to win a flag. Hope it doesn’t come to that… confident it won’t.
