Puzzling list management by the Hawks… picked up as 26 yr old and played 5 games over 2 years. What was the point? They didn’t need mature depth for a flag tilt and he was never going to improve much at that point in his career. I thought he was very good in 2016 given the circumstances but he never really progressed from there.
Can’t blame Hartley for taking 2 yrs at Hawks over the 1 yr offered by EFC. All the best to him.
Hardly puzzling. They saw a need for 2 years and filled the gap with Hartley. Happens very often with role players. It’s very similar to what we have done with Andrew Phillips.
He seemed to be really popular with team mates there, as he was with the Bombers. He and Drapes would have been a good morale boosting combination. It’s a pity that side of football seems to be disappearing.

Yeah and that’s fine if it was a guy here and there. The Hawks wasted a metric fuckton of spots (and games) on older, list-cloggy retreads when it was obvious to everyone they needed to rebuild.
Sam Frost, Scully, Patton, Hartley, Keegan Brooksby, Darren Minchington, Kyle Hartigan, Tom Phillips… etc etc etc
Meanwhile pensioning off Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis, Birchall, Smith to finish their careers elsewhere.
