2023 Mid Season Draft - Wednesday May 31 2023

Reckon he will play if not this game then the next in their AFL side. Fills a spot they desperately require

Wish Narkle best of luck.

Tsatas will have to carry our VFL midfield from game 1 without Narkle there.

I also wish him luck, but am also bewildered by PA selecting him. Narkle is nothing special.

He adds experienced body / head for their finals campaign, also will help bring through their young indigenous kids. Maybe some cattery & Dons intel should they meet them in finals.

Hunter could be a good switch player as he has played both ends well, but could be a good replacement for Jones if he doesn’t come up.

How could you even say this with a straight face

The success of the mid season and pre season draft are great examples of why they should raise the draft age. Dominating school boy football is a far cry from AFL standard.

And the likes of Daicos, Ashcroft, Rowell, McGrath, Humphrey, Sheezel, Walsh and Serong would say otherwise. Harley Reid and Nick Watson next year will also confirm this to be a bad idea.

Just because they’re doing well now doesn’t make it a good idea. Think of how many top rated kids have been a flop.

There are more examples of players not working out than succeeding. Around 30% of players ever make it to 50 games.

I mean, I don’t get the rush. If they’re really good talent that won’t change in A couple of years, but it allows for those later developers more time to come on.

mid season draft will mean nothing again once juniors get the full exposure to recruiters they were having pre-covid.

I like growing the aura of our auspicious numbers and 32 is certainly one of those. (Let’s just pretend Colyer never happened!)

I thought the idea of the MSP was to find a player. Narkle would be about 8 - 10 in line to ger a game in the midfield at PA, if at all.

Given Port are headed for finals, they may have taken a different view on the draft than us.
A lot of these players don’t work out, and are cut 6-18 months later.
Or maybe they were all in on Hunter and Poulter and just missed out.

Plenty of mature age draftees flop too, what does that tell you?

Punishing kids by holding them back just because some other kids their age aren’t ready is ludicrous.

Port have made it no secret to those at the club that they were seeking a small forward type preferably with experience. Fantasia is a week to week proposition to return and both Evans and Mead just aren’t up to it.
They had a specific role to fill and clearly targeted Narkle

Hasn’t that been the tale of the tape for Narkle’s whole career though.

He seems to reckon he’s a midfielder yet clubs don’t rate him as being good enough as an AFL midfielder and want to play him as a small forward.

Exactly this

Yeah, they obviously see enough in him and think he can play that high forward role with a few midfield minutes.

Can follow in the footsteps of Andrew Lee?
