2023 Mid Season Draft - Wednesday May 31 2023

Wouldn’t complain if we took John Jorgensen from our VFL team, he moves very well for a 198cm player. Plays key forward, pushes up the ground well, can pinch hit in the ruck, is a strong mark and a good kick for goal. Is 23 but I think with a crack at developing full time, could be a very solid player.

I don’t understand the point in drafting a young skinny kid in the mid season draft. We are badly under sized, and need cover in defense, given Stewart/Reid/Cox/Any tall player’s injury history.

No to anyone already in our system.

I don’t understand the point in drafting a stopgap solution when we do t really care about ladder position this year.

It’ll either be Richmond vfl or from the SANFL

Luke Teal if he is there we take, will be gold if the tigers beat us to lose the draft spot.

Is there anyone in the SANFL @Aceman

Given that I reckon we’d only be looking at taking the one pick in this MSD, I wonder whether it’s Jones who they will consider being more farked in terms of his prospects this season than Jayden Davey and they may put Jones on the LTI/inactive list and reactivate Davey.

We wouldn’t be interested but Kobe Ryan would have to be stiff to miss out on a spot. I didn’t go over over to Port Lincoln to watch us but spoke to a few since and the kid absolutely killed us. 28 touches with 11 clearances and 16 tackles. Just a real good contested ball winner and fierce tackler. I was staggered he didn’t get picked up last year as statistically he had a better season against men in the SANFL than what JHF had at the same age.

He can play anywhere aswell, was very puzzling to see him go undrafted

Yeah, strange one. Concerns over his build?
I’d love him at Essendon and is the type that would rack up 25+ every week in our VFL side from day 1 but I realise we have other priorities and won’t take a mid in the MSD.
I hope he gets a go somewhere because he is a contested beast

Is Stewart really going to play this season? Chuck him on the LTIL if not, and grab multiple picks if worthwhile.

Yeah, probably about Hobbs’ height but not the build.

What’s wrong with 183? Every time blitz talks height for mids it’s like

I’m sure @HarryJay will remember when Des Meagher first played for Hawthorn in the 60s.

First 6-footer (183cm) to be regularly selected on the wing.

Yes, in those days it was a new thing to have tall wingmen. I think Meagher on the wing for Hawthorn was a response, or maybe around the same time as, Richmond having Bourke and Clay on the wings, and they were ahead of their time in that role. The classic wingmen prior to that had been players like Bluey Adams for Melbourne and Barry Capuano for us, who were small and quick. As for big bodied mids, they used to call them ruck-rovers then, and guys like Barassi were onballers with size and strength and speed.

Apart from the fact we already have a midget midfield, nothing is wrong.
