Not necessarily my preferred side but my guess is Scott is leaning this way
McGrath McKay+ Reid
Redman Ridley$ Shiel
Duursma tsatas Martin
Draper Merrett Durham
Gresham caddy Jones
Kako Langford Perkins
Seh/Roberts/prior, parish®, Caldwell™ , 2mp/Bryan - guelfi∆
($ Etc ) - need to prove fitness
Depth
(+)- lav
$ - Hayes
® - setterfield
™ - Hobbs
∆ - Unwin
The seh/Roberts/prior call and the Bryan/2mp call are absolutely line ball. I suspect Scott will give first crack to the more experienced/mature guy
My preferred line up would be something like:
FB McGrath Reid Ridley
HB Redman McKay Prior
R Bryan Tsatas Durham
C Duursma Merrett Martin
HF El-Hawli Caddy Perkins
FF Langford Draper Kako
INT Roberts Parish Caldwell Jones Gresham
EMG from Cox Shiel Hobbs Guelfi Setterfield Hayes Wright
Realistic line up:
FB McGrath Hayes Prior
HB Redman Laverde Merrett
C Roberts Caldwell El Hawli
HF Martin Caddy Gresham
FF Kako Draper Langford
R Bryan Tsatas Durham
Int: Hobbs Unwin Jones Perkins
I would not include all the players that just are not physically ready to get on the park which means no Reid, McKay (got a feeling he will be injured) Ridley, Baldwin, Davey etc etc no Shiel no Parrish
Hopefully Ridley & McKay right to go for round 1…
Cant play all of Bryan/Draper/2MP so my team;-
Ridley McKay McGrath
Redman Reid Shiel
Martin Setters Duursma
Perkins Langford Merrett
Draper Caddy Kako
Bryan Durham Parish
Bench: Caldwell Tstatas Roberts Jones
SUB: Gresham
Emergency: Lav Hobbs SEH 2MP
Difficult to call until those in rehab come back. But if training and praccies go well I’d start Shiel off a hbf. Frees Marto forward or wing where his run and goal sense will shine. And I mean if its really not working with Shiel, a plan B mini suffle wouldn’t cause a problem.
Ridley McKay McG
Redman Reid Shiel
Duursma Merrett Martin
Perkins 2MP SEH
Caddy Langford Gresham
Draper Durham Caldwell
IC: Tsatas Parish Jones Bryza
Medic: Roberts
E: Kako Guelfi Lav Setterfield
Setters inclusion into the 23 if he keeps training well is def possible.
We do have more depth than in recent years. According to reports Tsatas is burning up the track: this could be the breakout year for him.
On the flip side, there are two players who, barring a Tulla pandemic, should never be selected again: Cox and Wright.
A lot to like about that lineup
Hopefully after a few more VFL games SEH gets the call up.
From training vision so far - my thoughts on a possible round one team.
Reid, McKay, McGrath
Redman, Ridley, Shiel
Duursma, Martin, El-Hawli
Durham, Caddy, Langford
Kako, Jones, Gresham
Foll: Draper, Merrett, Caldwell
Int: Perkins, Parish, Bryan and Tsatas
Sub: Roberts
I just dont understand how Roberts misses out after the last few games he had last year.
We are genuinely the only club that would prioritise a 32 year old proven failure over him.
This is presuming you are right of course but I trust your insight.
I had just started to get excited, now i am miserable again.
Like it but i think Prior will be in before Shiel
I would have nothing to complain about if that team is fit and starts round #1. Not until after the first bounce anyway.
We’d have a relatively strong reserves side as well who can hopefully build a winning culture and feed into the seniors based on form. One can dream anyway
Yeh its based really on how much coaching is giving Shiel responsibility and it kust comes across that this will happen. Look he is doing well but i totally get your thoughts. I was 50/50 with Perkins and Roberts swapping as we do normally have a 7th defender on the bench. So its a toss up
He should play ahead of Shiel all day long.
Got a feeling Roberts plays ahead of SEH.
So swap them and I think you’re close.
Yeh its a genuine 50/50. Personally i wanted Saad’s creativity and run
I would be really happy with this side lining up.
No Wright, Heppell, Kelly or Goldstein is a much better option than last year’s side.
Sadly, this Round 1 team wouldn’t surprise me:
McGrath, McKay, Laverde
Redman, Ridley, Shiel
Cox, Parish, Jones
Gresham, Langford, Martin
Menzie, Wright, Perkins
Goldstein, Durham, Merrett
Setterfield, Guelfi, Caldwell, Draper
Sub Prior
Yeah, take it to the rage-bait best 23 thread I reckon.
