Xavier Bamert is a medium sized midfielder/utility and addition to the large contingent of classy left foot kickers in this draft pool. This game was a tough one for his Sandy Dragons on a heavy deck, but Xavier found plenty of the ball and used it well when he was able to find space. The most impressive part of his performance might have been the stints he had in the forward line where he provided a strong marking presence and created a number of scoring opportunities.
I’m trying to work out just how weak this year’s draft is. If Angus Clarke was in this year’s draft, would he be in the top 10?
I have his draft year below Jacob Farrow at this point who i have in the early teens so I’d say somewhere between 15-25.
I’m really warming to Duursma. I know he’s non defined position scares people but I don’t see the Cox type risk, he looks a great prospect to me with lots of upside. Really competitive, dynamic, athletic and a great pair of hands. We need a bit of everything and this guy could play round 1 in a range of positions.
@noobermensch @THE_DON1 is there any genuine likelihood/risk of Harry Dean being taken at one of the first 6 picks in the draft?
It would be pretty humorous to see the Blues trade their first rounder back from the Hawks for Walsh, only to see it gobbled up by an early bid on Dean who Rookieme has ranked as the 5th best player in the open draft pool… Fark carlton.
I think WC or Richmond will definitely take him before us. But I agree, he’s be great.
WCE would be the danger, lack everything. Richmond took Josh Smillie as a similar bigger bodied player last year so a chance to slip.
We really need one of Richmond or North to leapfrog us, preferably both.
We need to trade into that GC/Port pick and use that pick and the Melb pick for WC pick 2 - Duursma at 2 and Lindsay at our pick. drop mic
North could well beat Saints this weekend, Saints just won their premiership and we saw last night what these wins do to mental focus following week (Giants).
heavy rain Sydney tomorrow, hopefully that doesn’t unlock an Essendon win based on being a bit more hungry only?
No chance. We’re terrible in the wet.
Must move up one place in the draft at all costs. It could be the difference between Hobbs….and Sinn.
I think someone closer to the recruiters themselves would have a better idea. Cal is often a good conduit for recruiters thoughts so probably best to keep an eye on his rankings.
Just my own opinion, I don’t rate Harry Dean highly enough to have him in my top 10 but a lot of the other ranking lists coming out recently do.
There is a chance but yeah depends on list needs of those clubs, Carlton aren’t stupid enough to bring in a pick they know is a chance of being taken away either, they likely look for future picks or even try to trade back in after Dean bid. They have Walker to worry about as very high pick next year aswell
I’d like to compare Willem’s draft packages to someone like Harry Jones.
To my untrained eye Duursma looks really good.
i also think it’s worth comparing highlights packages across draft years.
ie I don’t see it yet with CDT’s footage compared to say Jackson or Darcy’s draft footage.
To me CDT is more a ruck option you would want in the second round of a good draft
I think our best chance is if we don’t win another game and Tigers beat North in round 23, as well nudge ahead of us for %.
Mikunda is a clever and versatile player who can sneak under the radar and end up damaging with his ability to set up attacking plays. He had two quieter games and two excellent performances at the Champs with this possibly being his best. He excels at the little things, such as his ability to be clean and composed in traffic and his excellent, attacking decision making with the ball.
The 2 players we would likely get with picks say 5-6 (pre bids) say for example we draft Greeves & Marsh. Would they of likely been top 10 picks last year?
Maybe Marsh has the potential to be top 10 last year, I’m not Greeves biggest fan so definitely not for me on him but others might.
Is there a player in this years open draft that’s significantly better at their current picks(2/3) than ours? Say we get pick 4 which is likely because StKilda will win again where we won’t.
