2025 draft spec (Part 1)

Don’t want. There are others with quality disposal and much more upside positionally. Small backs are probably our least required area of need. Any spot for Lindsay is pretty much the spot I want for Johnson in the team next year.

I reckon Lindsay is more than just a nice kick, he has an impressive side step in traffic, followed by the nice disposal off the left which reminds me of pendles a bit and he seems relatively tough.

The same Johnson that got dropped for our last round, in preference to a player delisted already, after coming off the bench the game before & playing well?

This is the added problem of having a coach who’s selection integrity is often questionable.

The treatment of Tsatas, Johnson, El Hawli & Davey were all strange from the outside this year.

What it shows that’s there’s a lot of options so our pre season selections will be worth waiting for

If Ants is right and the top 4 are Duursma, CDT, Sharpe and Marsh, then we could take Cumming, Lindsay, and Grilj. All 3 offer different benefits in different parts of the ground. Cumming as hf/mid, Lindsay as HB distributor, and Grilj as outside speed. But all 3 look like play makers

For now I’ve think I’ve settled on the following assuming Draper nets us first round compo:

  • Hope Sharp slides (he’s the most likely to get beyond the first four selections that has top end quality and his balanced offence / defence is standard driving)
  • Then take Xavier Taylor as a combative third tall defender that adds aggression and physicality, along with versatility to play tall and small
  • I’m currently leaning towards Robey as a more risky but upside pick post the first two. His attributes could really become something at the next level in a professional environment. There was a hype article about him today that suggests he’s a very competitive, resilient and driven young man.
  • Then I’d be hoping for another pick in the teens to get a look at one of the forward/mids that might still be available (Phillipou, NHH, Cumming, BOB)
  • Then Sweid and El-Achkar when bids dictate.

If Port’s - and other clubs’ - petitions can get the FS/NGA lockout moved back a few years, then we can look at adding a first rounder plus Justice next year and Bewick the year after.

That rounds our list balance much more nicely. It obviously hopes that two of Caddy, Gerreyn, May and I guess now McMahon, come on as legitimate key forwards, but you’ve hopefully then got a better performing side which may make attracting a FA KPF more likely down the track.

Just not sure about Robey, would prefer Cumming.

Worth considering Pickett for the small forward if we could get a teen pick?

Yeah, I get that. Robey certainly has a lot of uncertainty attached to him given his very late season rise.

He might be the one better suited to the teens pick.

Cumming I really like - although I wouldn’t be surprised if Richmond go there early. So I suspect we’d have either him or Sharp available at our first.

Haven’t seen Pickett play yet so won’t comment other than to say there are some knowledgeable posters on here that rate him.

Hope like hell Sharp slides then Take as many SA kids as possible. Marsh, cumming, Barker, phillipou, BOB, pickett. They all possess skills and traits we need but most importantly they have an established chemistry and competitive drive to win.

Outside of the croweaters I think Taylor would be the ideal Ridley replacement: like Ridley he covers talls and smalls and can intercept but unlike Ridley he is fast, competitive and aggressive on the rebound.

He is a very “Richmond” style of defender imo.

The knock on Sharp is the ceiling is low with not much upside. A lot of draft watchers have said if West Coast don’t pick him with 1 or 2 he could potentially slide outside the top 10 and then he’s in a dogfight for clubs looking at list needs as much as available talent.

I’m going to assume we don’t get band 1 for Draper so with our back to back picks I’d like us to get Cumming and Grjl. I am warming to Farrow as a half back with a decent kick tbh but pick 7 or 8 might be a bit of a reach. I also wouldn’t complain if we took Schubert; he looks a gun.

Grjl and Phillipou are the smaller, speedy midfielders of the draft. Phillipou looks to be the pick of the two. I just think he’s better on the inside and makes better decisions. His evasive sidestep gives him the ability to offbalance the opposition and give himself some extra time.

The magilla garilla is great at changing directions too

I like the look of Jevan. I’d be okay with him too.

Phillipou has more positional versatility imo, better aerial game, less bust potential as his athletic profile means he’d be suitable for multiple positions.

His brother is obviously already in Melbourne so he is less likely to get homesick. Might mean Saints are keen on him though.

Yeah i like this blend, they are my 3 favourites at those picks, i just feel Essendon will feel the need to take a tall with one of those 3 picks to cover more potential areas. Which is silly, but they’ll wanna go a high upside pick with one of the three you’d think.

Should there be a bit of caution around Jevan Phillipou attracting attention based mostly off his good form at SANFL U18 level?

Seems a much lower standard of football than some of his peers have been tested under. Happy to stand corrected.

Next year as a free agent. Fire up

Not all of us long for a team with those players featuring.

He hasn’t played U18’s in almost 2 months.

After coming back from injury he played 2 games in the SANFL U18’s and then played SANFL league for the last 6 games

Where do you rate him in the top 20 ?
