I actually think the opposite.
Firstly, what does “development” actually mean? What does Geelong do, that we don’t?
Since Covid, coaching teams have been gutted, and more than ever, it’s become for important for players to become resilient and work on their games themselves. Scott or Macrae just doesn’t have the time to sit down with individual players
Secondly, Essendon is poor at “development”, yet many of our best players over the last few years are late/rookie picks - Martin, Durham, Tippa, etc. So is that not good development by us, or good recruitment? Which comes to the point that you simply can’t separate recruiting from development.
In the end, finals are won by team with a bunch of 27+ year olds who have repeatedly played together. That comes down to so many factors. And in Geelong or Pies case, many of those players are trades or free agency pick ups

Sure Duursma has some eye catching fast feet but man his decision making and kicking are questionable at best. Buyer beware with him IMO.

I think it’s decision making more often than not. Technically doesn’t look too bad, just tries to bite off more than he can chew at times.
